Thanks @drummer_god much appreciated. Is there any information on what type of base PC is required? Compatible motherboard, sound and videocards? Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

IDE CD Rom drive
IDE hard drive
Pentium 4 processor
1 GB Ram or more
Geforce 6600-9600 video card.

The installation discs won’t work on a sata CD Rom or hard drive
But once installed onto an IDE hard drive, you can then clone it to a sata hard drive.

Hey fellas, long time since I've been on and thanks for keeping this alive!  Bad news, my DFI mobo finally crapped the bed and I've searched the internet with no luck of finding a replacement.  It was a NB32-SL.  Bunch of blown caps and a blown power supply. After reading a bunch of the threads, I see I could upgrade to a Dell Optiplex 240 tower.  So I have 2 questions...  1.  I tried taking my existing HD and putting it into an older Compaq Presario I had and here's the odd thing.  It started to boot normally and then I got an error about a SIS file missing from the c:Windows/i386 folder and it said to load the CDROM for Win XP Pro?  I didn't do anything other than take the existing drive and plug it into the Compaq to see if it would happen to boot. Why would the error message say Win XP Pro when we all know it had Win XPe on it?  2.  If I buy a Dell OptiPlex tower, I should be able to take the existing hard drive, Video card and I/o board and basically plug and play correct?  I know I'll probably need to load a few drivers for those cards but I saw that Ed stated he ran into an issue when he tried the Dell tower and was talking with Paul Stevens to try and rectify but he never finished that thread on what he did to fix this?  I'm stuck without my game and am looking for the best option to get back up and running.  Can anyone help?

Dell gx280 or gx260 are the popular optiplexes to use. A DFI computer uses AGP videocards and the optiplex uses PCI-e videocards, so you’ll need a geforce 6600-9600 that is PCI-e ( luckily they’re very cheap on eBay ).

If you can use your IDE harddrive in a dell ( which may only have sata ), you will need to install ethernet, sound and videocard drivers ( available on dell’s Website ).

Another option is to buy the everlast computer ( which was the global VR-provided upgrade to their games that originally had DFI computers ), and currently available on eBay. The everlast is a very easy transition as you can install your old harddrive or simply reinstall with the game discs if you have those.

Also, we are on Facebook these days so look for us there;

Answer the three screening questions and I’ll be sure to accept your request.

Thanks for the info @drummer_god.  I just checked ebay and couldn't find an Everlast PC, just some new notebook they came out with.  I'm gonna search for the OptiPlex GX models.  I found a GX240 for anywhere from $59.99 to $89.99, some with a hard drive and some without.  My HDD is good but I think it would be best to grab another one and try to clone it so I have a backup in case it craps out.  When are you normally online?  I'd like to chat with you about a couple things PGA related to make sure I can get my game back up and running.  Let me know what day/time you'll be on and I'll login.  I apologize, I'm not on facebook.  I'm kinda old-school, lol.  Plus it seems like nothing but drama on there with idiots I used to go to school with.  Thanks again and look forward to chatting soon.

Thats the nice thing about discord though.  You can talk or not talk.  You engage or dont.  Set your alerts to only be @ mentions and you will rarely get bugged.  Think your wife would like it better if you left facecrook for a better platform.  My two cents.

‘Rick’ has appeared 2 weeks in a row and no one has claimed the identity so we can’t add a location.

New to this arena. I am hoping someone can help me get software for my PGA Golf Challenge game. Or talk my on to how I can download a copy of the newer versions. I have original tower but the hard drive just gave up the ghost on me and my luck disk 1 has scratch on it. It has a gen 2 I/O card, could I put this in another tower? and if I get software be cooking with Crisco again?

For the last 3 weeks there has been someone playing under "No Name". By chance is someone from here? If so, it is possible to get your name corrected and location added so your scores mean something.

Hoping someone can help me out here.  I'm pretty well versed in the GVR hardware department.  I'm built many custom PCs with diff motherboards for the NFS series and Madden.  I'm now jumping into PGA Tour.  I have 6 machines, and I'm currently testing motherboards.  Here's the issue I'm having at the moment.

-I have an Intel D865GSA motherboard with all other components verified working from another PGA computer.  Video card is a geforce 6600 and works fine in my other PGA computers.  I loaded the recover disk, and updated all the drivers.  All drivers good to go with no exclamation points.
-I loaded the 3 Team Challenge disks and let it do it's thing.
-Upon reboot the machine does all the menu loading, runs the dongle check, gives the thumbs up security "ball drop" sound, then just forever loops between a blank screen and Please wait screen.

What should happen, as it does with all my OEM motherboard, is go through all the menu loading, give the security clearance "ball drop", go to a bland screen for a bit, come back to the Please wait for a second, then either start the game, or give the "card reader missing" press start screen.

Anyone ever have this endless blank screen/please wait loop, or know why it's happening?

from what i've gathered, the cloning program used during setup does not check for data integrity and just dumps data directly to the drive without verification. it's a really bad way of doing it, but I think they chose to do it that way for the sake of speed.

you could have a bad read on the setup disk or bad hard drive sectors and never even know it.

try another disk set and a new hard drive (if you haven't installed one already it's a good idea to, the original drives they used where pretty cheap.)

Did I read right earlier. Are y'all playin tournies online? I miss this game, played the hell out of it back in the day. Even had the pleasure of attending both live championships in Vegas. Would consider givin up my right arm (I'm a leftie, so could still play,  :P ) to get my hands on one of these machines and/or play this game again. Someone hit me up if yer still playin.

Thanks,

Drummer,

Thanks for the link. That definitely got me pumped up to play again!

I read through the history here, and it was very moving (and informative) to see what all went into the resurrection of this game.  :applaud: kudos to all, and a special thanks to the gifted and self-sacrificing  :burgerking: Boost

I've located a TC cabinet being sold locally, from someone that appears to be playin the tournies, or at least knows about them. Just gotta get some coin together, so I can make a decent offer, and hope he's not set on his buy now price.  :D

Found my players card, so good to go there. But may need to find another for my buddy, if he can't find his old one. We can play more than one person per cabinet, yes? I remember the GVR tournies were limited to top 2 scores per cabinet, but didn't see mention of any restriction here.

It was a lil bit of a bummer to see that the main communication channel is now through FB.  Oh well, I think my buddy is on it, may be able to get him to access necessary info (assuming you would add him to FB group).

Can't wait to join y'all. Look forward to seein y'all on the leaderboards soon, or rather, looking forward to y'all seein me at the top of the leaderboards.  :P

Which state are you in?

Your old players card very likely won’t work as it was registered on a different server than the one we’re using now.

Many people create FB accounts solely to join the group and put very little info in their profile.
Use your favourite sports team as tor profile picture.

You’re best bet is to join the Facebook group as you may find someone in your area who is selling a cabinet.
Some of us find them cheap, fix them and find them good homes.
Most anything you find on eBay will need some sort of restoration work.

Hi new owner checking in here! I actually trash picked this one. Got a phone call it was sitting on a curb. Dollar bill changer and all in it. Figured I'd post on here for the pro's to give me some tips. When I power it up I hear HV on the monitor and the PC fires up and the leds on the topper come on but nothing on the screen. I hear the PC boot up or maybe it's just getting into the bios. I do hear a beep. Looks like 2 of the white dongles were inside it. Just curious if I'm missing something or maybe this is why it was on the curb. PC was full of dust gave it a good cleaning. None of the marquee lights or under control panel lights are working. Just the little leds across the fold down topper. Just looking at what is the best place to start looking to trouble shoot and what steps to take. Any upgrades or mods for it.  Here are some pics I hope they show up... Thanks!

Connect a computer monitor to the computer and see if there’s an image there. If so, monitor is dead.
I’m not sure what you meant when you said you ‘hear hv on the monitor’?

And only 1 picture posted. Was there supposed to be others?

New to this forum so I don't know why my pics did'nt work but I uploaded some to my Flickr account and you can see all the pics I've taken so far here... https://www.flickr.com/photos/phillyturbosix/albums/72157713984634177  https://www.flickr.com/photos/phillyturbosix/albums/72157713984634177  Sorry about the monitor repair guy nerd letters.. :) I hear high voltage (HV) when I power it up. So I know the monitor is getting power at least. I pulled the PC so I'll try and hook it up to a monitor and see if I get any life. All of my marquee lights and the front light is out. Think they are just burned out or is there some common issue with them? I didn't poke around a ton yet with it.  I just have the little leds on the fold down topper working when I power it up. Thanks!

I actually had the PC next to me here so I fired it up on a spare monitor. Fans come on, I hear a beep (I guess bios beep) and that's it. All fans working and then the monitor will go to sleep after a few seconds. Hard Drive? I also uploaded a pic of the inside of the PC on that Flickr link. Thanks!

Can you connect a different computer to the monitor and see if there’s an image.

Just curious if this is a dead computer AND dead monitor or just the computer?

Working at home and board today so I'm messing with this thing.. :) The monitor is good used it on a PC just before. I'm not sure how these work but I've seen games where only certain monitors with certain resulitions will work with them? I used the 9pin on the on board monitor plug, I used the 9 pin on the installed video card, and I used the DVI on the installed video card. Nothing. Boots, get a beep and that's it just sits there with the B52 bomber fans screaming. I also pulled the dongle and tried all the same.. I'm starting to think mother board... hmmm any other ideas? Thanks for your help!

If you turn on the computer you should be able to at least see the initial bios check screen before it starts trying to boot the hard drive.

If you can see that then the issue is the hard drive or videocard.
If you can’t even see the bios boot screen then the motherboard is likely shot and you’re looking at a new computer - dell gx280, 780 and a few others are good options.

If replacing the computer, you’ll need the nytric card out of your current computer ( where the wire harness connects to )
