it might also be a worth looking into what CPU you have on your board and see if you can upgrade the CPU to something faster too. little bit of extra here and there certainly add up.

Finally am about to go pull the trigger on my first PGA Challenge Machine after 2 years of waiting!   I plan on using the HASP2007 dongle to bump up to Team Challenge, and playing on Boosts server.   I have two questions that i didn't find in 2 weeks of digesting the first 52 pages!

1.  I have done a ton of research about transporting cabinets, and most say that it's safe to lay them on their back/sides.  Does anyone have any feedback, or suggestions on this?  I know the Global VR Cabs have a PC inside, so i'd assume just make sure everything is secure inside the cab, and then after the trip make sure everything is clear of debris, coins, etc etc.
2. The PC may be on its last legs.  I would doubt it was ever cleaned out.  PSU is making a hideous grinding sound, and there appears to be a very nice family of dust bunnies living inside the case.  I have done some initial testing, and my real hangup is getting XP Embedded to play nice with SATA drivers on more current hardware.  The LGA775 boards have an IDE channel that should work with the system, and they also have a PCI-E slot instead of AGP.  I have read about swapping the Optiplex GX260 in, but there are some heat benefits to using something with lower power requirements like a Core2 or a core based Celeron.  Has Anyone had any success on newer hardware beyond the P4?  What is the most advanced PC that anyone has used?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Jashj welcome to the PGA Club.  Firstly I like to transport my machines standing up as I heard that it may effect the monitor if laying down for to long but if it's a short trip should be no problem.
I am running Pga challenge version on a dell gx260 all that was needed were some xp drivers and some sound drivers.  This makes the game run much faster. I suggest joining the face book page as you will get more help there a lot quicker.

Before hauling mine I talked to 3 different people I have known who do arcade game work and they said it was fine to transport them on their back. One said to be extra safe,  that I could remove the PC but wasn't essential. So I transported it on its back and padded the area around the PC with blankets and that worked fine for me.

Hey BEV yes server up and running for good this time. All the instructions you need to get online can be found on the first page and post. Let me know if you need any further help. As online play opens up all courses and hidden skill shots and items also tournaments and leaderboards also. No good without it.

If you have already done this and haven't rolled back to another version of the game all you have to do is call into the server.
Go to the operators menu and force a call to the server let it finish 100% then go back to game and enjoy the online play.

Hey All!
I'm not much of a Facebook type, but when I get on the tournament server, I will hop on there with everyone.
I picked up my cab on Monday, and overall it's in pretty good shape.  The CPU and cab fans are louder than the Medium/High attract volume, and the CRT is not in great working order, so I think I'm going to do a pedestal conversion shortly with an old 45" Sharp LCD I have laying around.  My biggest issue right now is the Trackball parts are very worn down.  I have very visible grooves in the metal rollers, at least one of the bearings is probably shot, and the ball has definitely seen better days.  It's a non PS/2 Betson unit, and everyone seems to recommend the Suzo Happ models.  Does anyone have recommendations?  It looks like in parts alone I'm at $50+, so it may make better sense to go ahead and replace the whole unit.  Are the Beston & Happ models interchangable, or is there more hardware required?

Thanks in advance!
-Josh

Hi Josh never seen a betson version trackball on any newer team challenge machines only happ ones. Pick urself up one off ebay mate that's the way to go.  Plug and play once you have team challenge version running and of course have all the hardware such as the I/o board.

Cool.  So I guess the only other question I have is, is there a different IO board for a Happ VS Imperial/Beston?  The unit is have is just a 6 pin connector that leads back to the 37 Pin D SUB on my input card.  Can i just buy a Happ, and plug it into the existing wire harness?

nope, the wiring is identical....worst case i've seen is a direction is reversed...it's just a matter of swapping the x or y leads.

So I was the lucky winner of a Championship III cab off of ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/131788454275).  I will be picking it up this weekend.  It looks to be a fun project.   Great to see this thread active!

As I dont Facebook this is still my only link to PGA, I was able to install PGA Tour on a spare hdd but it took a little of extra drivers (codec).  I am excited as I still have Champ I dongle to get going and looking for Champ II dongle to complete all the versions (and running).   Took version 1.2 to get PGA Tour going, but questions is this, Does facebook have a site for version .iso's and/or chd of drives? I have .chds of all my working drives for quick repair, does any else do this?

Thanks
Jason

Don't have any chd's of drives but there were iso's of different version of the game on the Facebook page. However they have now been taken down.  Is your machine online yet Jason?

Can't bring myself to play the game without the online tournaments and world tour just boring now without the leaderboards. Boost has now started a handicap system for all online players to even the tournaments out which adds extra joy to online play.
Whoever has a Pga golf machine get yourself online and join in the fun!!

I understand not wanting to play unless online, I was focused on getting all the hidden items at one time, but my skills kept me from achieving the goal.  I have a few dongles and the idea of getting them all up and running is my new focuse.  Its also fun to plat courses that arent on my all access cab.  Have multiple PCs in my cab and just switch the cables over to play different versions.  I would truly like to get each dongle emulated and allow everyone acces to the complete PGA Library, but one thing at a time.  Has anyone on facebook been able to get ahold of a copy of ANARK mEDIA Center to edit the main menu??

Hey Jason,
There are a few good posts and pics of machines running multiple versions of the game over on the Facebook page using a db29 switcher and vga switcher also I think it is which X work great without having to swap any cables etc just flick switch for different machine. Also changing the menu icons with Anark is on Boosts long list of things to do but not a priority at the moment. Others have also looked into it but with that expensive software not going to happen anytime soon.

Will wait til I can get the wifes phone and look an Facebook.  I had looked through asshat arcade as he used a hdd switcher to control his Need for Speed and thought that was a good idea.  Mostly switching between versions is just to suit me for my curiousity.

Hi All boosts online tournaments are running every week now and he has now even up the field a handicapping system for each player.  So if you haven't already got your machine online so it now.
Here are the leaderboard links to the tournaments
http://76.216.197.247/pga4/Tournament_Leaderboards.aspx
And World Tour which opens up the single player game like never before with hidden skill shots to find which reward you special items to customise your player and allows you play all of the Team challenge courses as you would with an AAP.
All instructions on page 1 post 1 and patcher on page 22. If you need a hand getting onto the server just post or pm me.

I think my video card is fried as I cannot get a signal to any monitor I hook up to it.

Things I checked:
-Reseated RAM
-Reseated video card
-Different video cables
-VGA and DVI port
-pulled video card completely and tried onboard video
-reseated CMOS battery

Computer turns on, beeps once then black screen on any monitor I try.  The keyboard seems to work fine and the cd drive works but no boot.

Is there a list of compatible video cards or pcs as I might just replace the whole damn thing.  The video card I have is the ASUS 6600LE

I would try Moving ram into different slot and if that doesn't work replace with new ram. With regards to video card I have used nvidia cards from 4200 to 8600 mate.
1 beep normally means video or motherboard fault

As i am updating my list of players online? We have a total of around 40 players so far that are on the leaderboards. Thx Joe

I purchased a card from eBay.   Waiting for arrical to try this out.  But now, I'm seeing the game freeze after three holes.  Not sure if it's patch-related but for a couple of days of ownership before that, it played fine.  Any thoughts on the best way to fix this? More RAM or video card upgrade?

Hi Troy welcome mate. Definately not patch realated but sounds like a video card or maybe even an overheating issue. When you say the game freezes what exactly donyou mean?  Does the screen lock up and your not able to do anything unless you power off and on again?? Or does it go back to attract mode and you have to start the round again?

Hey Spitfire.  It is a total freeze.  Have to power down each time.    I did have it running all day yesterday and the fan seems a bit noisy so it could probably do with a replacement.  I shut down for an hour last night and rebooted and thenot played 36 holes so probably a heat issue.  I'll see what I can do about the fan.

Weather conditions such as rain and fog have now been added to tge latest online tournaments. We will now be following the PGA Tour directly playing when they play at the course they play and with the exact same weather conditions forcast for that week.

Anyone who have not yet put their machine online nows the time to do it and get involved in these tournaments. For those of you not sure about your skills the handicap system is set up to level the playing field.

If you need anyhelp getting online read the first post in thread for instructions or post hear or pm me for help.

See you all on the leaderboards!!
