I appreciate the welcome back. I cant say im "back" though. Let me explain a few things and go over what I hope the future of all this shapes up to be.
First off, I dont have any EA or GVR code. I have also never worked for them. The entire server is written from scratch via reverse engineering. From deciphering their data protocol, encryption, and transport protocol, it was all RE.
The amount of hours I spent creating the server, writing all the tools, and debugging was immense. I started neglecting things. I also took something that was fun and turned it into something that felt like a second job. I got family so mad at me for neglecting them that one night I just said that's it, I'm done with this stress. So I shut it all down, deleted all accounts and walked away.
I never looked at byoac from that night until a night or so ago. I saw how people really love this game, were upset, and all the new people that came out of the woodwork. I knew the server needed to go back online.
So the server is back up.....but......I can't go back to developing the way I was. If I charged money and this was a second business then sure, but it's not. This is something that needs to be fun for me. That means a few new rules for myself.
1) I will code when I can. That might mean a bunch, it might mean none.
2) Tournament creation needs to be outside of my control. When I start coding the first thing I will do is create a page that allows some people like Spit and Tim to handle tournys.
3) I will not shut the server back down. It means too much to the community.
4) I will not share the code or RE findings with anyone. It could open myself up to liability and other legal issues I cannot forsee as I'm not a lawyer.
5) This needs to be fun.
So with everything said I dont know what the future will bring in terms of new code. I dont know how often I will check this site. I will start a twitter account so I can just post info about the server. Will post that account name after I create it. Also via twitter Ill post the two links to check tourny and wt stats.
Ok, serious stuff out of the way now. Everybody enjoy some golf.
