Critique my layout(s)
« on: September 04, 2011, 04:27:52 pm »
I am at a crossroads.  I am going to use background color as a cue to let you know what emulator is currently selected beyond the obvious "Mame" and "N64" text.

So, now the question is whether or not I should use one image accross all emulators or if I should use a different image with each emulator.

My original thought was tied with my cabinet title of Insomnia (which I am thinking about changing).  I was after a night time themed graphic.  Thusly, I found a cool scarecrow image.

So, attached are 3 images.  2 scarecrow images which I spent some time on.  This hints at what I mean by cues by coloration.  I figure that it would be a nice look to flip through the various emulators and be provided with the same image but colored differently as you go.

The third image is a tossed together steam punk layout that is there to mostly show how coloration would work.

The issue I am having with different images is that themes will end up all over the palce (circuit boards, lightning, etc) unless I keep it to different scarecrow related pictures.

Anyways.  Asking for thoughts.  As is, I think most of the community would prefer something like variously colored circuit boards.

And as another note, has anyone consider a stickied thread for layouts?  I'd love to share mine when they are done since they will take atleast 10 hours to do.

I like them but I think the details are very small!

By details, you mean the characters?  That is somewhat intentional.  But I have thought about changing that.  I tried to make them look like parts of the scene.  The ghost on the barn and pacman looking at him.  QBert on a corn stalk leaf.  Donkey Kong on a branch, etc.

I'll toss together another sample with larger characters to see what it looks like.  Not till tomorrow though.  Might be tough due to Gimp though.  Gimp does not save the original artwork so once scaled down, scaling up can get pixelated.

I think I am going to stick with the one image that changes color based on emulator.
