Hi all,

I would not have best knowledge on Arcade Monitors. So far this is what I know.
I bought a Last Bronx Sega Model 2 Cab in Dublin Ireland last week, so its not jamma.
http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=3828
It is fully working dedicated Cab, with a NANAO MS8-26SU Monitor - 26inch

What i want to do is set it up for Mame,
I bought a ArcadeVGA PCi-e and gonna put this into a Mame PC,
must buy one this week, Maybe a 3.2 HT, 1GB, Dell optiplex or something like that.
Have Full MAME Set set. And using Mini Pac to USB for Control Panel. Crome LEDs Buttons and Trackball.
Thats easy part :)

Question is:
How to connect Nanao Monitor to ArcadeVGA.

1 I know Nanao has a Connector set to 25Htz and I know how to change it to 15Htz.
2 I know Arcade Vga Card has VGA output

How to Connect the two? I dont have much knowledge and what to do here or not.
Can I wire directly from Nanao to VGA?
Any good howtos on how to do this, pictures be helpful, total noob at this.

Is better to Buy J-PAC to go Nanao -> J-Pac -> AracdeVGA
Would that protect Monitor as only feed correct inputs and not pull anything?
Is any thing wasnt working on this monitor, blown transitior id be clueless and prob put 26 tv inside,
so what to get this right first go and know the do's and dont's beforehand

Be great if I didnt need JPAC and could use to Nanao and ArcadeVGA Card as i have these at hand,
and then only need to work out the Cable. But if J-Pac is needed then ill get one.

Useful Links i have found:http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=73835.0
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=72789.0

If someone has similar cab with Pics online or something,
or could someone simply this for me, id owe ye bigtime.

Thanks all,
Kev

You can find a diagram that shows you what wires to where, you will need a 15pin vga plug and that wires directley to the monitor input connector which has pins for RED, GREEN, BLUE & SYNC.
The only problem you will have though is that the monitor you have requires the RGB levels to be 5 volts whereas the output from the VGA is only 1 Volt RGB, the J-Pac has a built in amp to boost the RGB levels.
Ultimarc do actually sell an amp (a lot cheaper than a J-pac) to do this and it looks really simple to wire up as it has screw terminals for the wires from the monitor side of things and you just use a VGA cable to plug the amp into the PC (like the type you usually get on a PC LCD monitor with a VGA plug on either end).

Hey

Thanks a million for the reply.
Thats exactly what I done, got VidAmp Delivered 2 days ago.
Ill connect that to ArcadeVGA Card.

http://www.ultimarc.com/vidamp.html
The current version of this amp is designed to be connected to a VGA card which outputs 5 volts on pin 9 of the VGA connector.
Which works fine with latest ArcadeVGA i bought.
http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainf.html

I also got a Compaq DC8550, 2GB RAM, 2.3 ghtz Dual Core with ArcadeVGA Card 512MB, should be fine for most Mame and SF4 for PC :)
I install ArcadeVGA Card, Mame and try hook it all up this weekend.

Looking at monitor theirs 5 cables going to monitor board
RED
GREEN
BLUE
White = Grd
White-Blue = H.H\V
EMPTY Slot

VGA AMP has 6 slots too:
RED
GREEN
BLUE
HV
GRD
Blank Slot

5 Wires from monitor go down cabinet and split in 2,
RGB to one spliiter, and then white & white\Blue cable to other splitter.
So should be straight to straight :)

Hopefully splitting these is all i need to do and no other changes to main cab to begin with
as Cab fully working Sega Model 2, dont want to mess with rest yet as im clueless
So start with Moinitor, Mame PC and getting CP finished.

Hopefully making sense with my long winded reply :)

Thanks
Kev

The wires on the monitor chassis that are to be wired to the amp are the ones that just go to that connector (the little white one) that fixes to the board.

Oh and the 'empty slot' on the monitor connector is the other 'Sync' as there are Horizontal & Vertical syncs on that monitor model, the extra one (not sure if it's the horizontal or vertical sync) isn't wired as it's not usually needed in arcades and won't be needed with the arcade vga either as both the sync outputs from the arcade vga match.
Before I used an arcade vga card (and was just using soft15khz instead) I had to wire an extra wire to that pin as my sync's were positive and negative.... but nothing to worry about with the arcade vga.

i love the thing. Im hooked now.

I gonna start too threads one for cocktail and one for this one there soon
as I took pcitures as I went along, good to share ...

Theres a 2 Player Ridge Racer 5 BA Cab I have eye on too
its HUGE!!! So tempted to buy it if its still there in 2 weeks,

Just wanted to say that I am in the exact same boat as you kevin2me.  I picked up an old Virtua Striker Cab that had been modded for a four slot NeoGeo MVS.

I had spent the last two days trawling through trying to identify my chassis (turned to be a MS8-26SU) and then working out how to get it connected up to my PC's VGA.

I found a couple of really good threads  HERE & HERE & thought I had got everything but this threads info highlighting the 5v on the 9th pin is Gold Dust!! So i'd like to thank you both (retromax as well) and I will be watching the thread with huge interest, it's good to know that other people are using almost identical kit and going through the same thing at the same time!

I've got a friend travelling back from the states on the 22nd who has all my Ultimarc purchases I just need him to order a vidamp now and I'll be ready to go!!

All the best!

I know, comfort knowing others with same issues :)

I saw those threads before actually, they helped me on 25 to 15 htz side of things,
but just wasnt kid prove as retromax's explanation :)

But I suppose down the line its worth looking at below if ever wanting to add lightguns:
Stay in Touch my fiend :)

"all ms8-26su  video input's are the same I leared how to split the H/V becuase if you do not a light gun will not work untill you split it on it's own H and V path seperatly.

also when I installed mine to the arcadevga I could not get video at first untill I checked the wire's and found that the ground and sync were split half way down the wiring and the sync color changed over to the ground wire color and the ground wire color changed over to the sync color I am not sure if this was done stock or if somebody did it incorrectly after the fact or what but just thought I would mention it in case you run into the same thing becuase I do not know if the makers did it or some weird tech guy afterwards lol. "

I 'think' they are in london, they are not the same company as gremlin btw, gremlin just sell their products. The whole US thing is simply because the majority of their customers are from the US so it feels better for the customers thinking they are getting them from there. The delivery is fast anyway to the US and they don't actually say they are in they arn't in the US so they arn't lying or anything it's just good buisess for them that way.

I happen to have an arcade with the same monitor and am wondering if there is any way to hook it up to a computer via vga, svideo, or composite without buying the arcadevga video card.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

-Thanks

You will need to make a lead from the VGA to RGB and use Soft15khz to output 15khz from the pc which is the frequency the arcade monitor needs. The arcade VGA card does this from boot so if you were to use the software instead of the arcade VGA you wouldn't get 15khz until windows kicked in. Sending the wrong frequency to your monitor 'can' damage it although i've never experienced any damage. Best thing to do if you do use the software route is to power on the monitor after the pc has booted.

"You will need to make a lead from the VGA to RGB" - Can this be purchased somewhere? I am leery about doing this myself as I don't want to damage the monitor

Soft15khz - Can someone point me in the right direction on how to install this?

-Thanks for the help
