Is there any way to configure Mame so that games designed for only one joystick can use inputs from two sticks (one at a time)?
For example, the original Donkey Kong has a single stick. Two players can play, but they must share the single stick.
My Mame cabinet will have sticks for 2 players. In Donkey Kong with normal Mame settings, my understanding is that the players will still have to share the player 1 stick. The second player would be unable to use to player 2 stick because Donkey Kong isn't designed for use with multiple sticks.
I am wondering if it is possible to tell Mame that the players can use either joystick? I am using an Ipac for the encoder. Would it be possible to tell Mame that in Donkey Kong, either "x" or "y" means go up, where x is the up for player 1's stick and y is up for player 2's stick? I think I could also wire the player 2's stick to the Ipac's ports for player 1 through some kind of relay or switch, but I was hoping that I could avoid extra wiring.
