im debating on where to put the coin buttons for each player.  as you can see, right now i only have the start buttons on the cp itself, because i plan to put the coin buttons on the sides of the cp panels...as in right on the side panel underneath each players hands as a lot of people have done.  im doing this to avoid any more clutter that i already have.  however, will this cause a problem?  i dont want people accidentally hitting it when they dont want to, and i want it to not be awkward to hit that button, then reach up on the top of the cp to hit start.  so my question is, should i keep the coin buttons on the side like i said, or should i drill more holes next to the start buttons and place the coin buttons there?

well im not worried about the 1st and 2nd players, because there is more overhang of the cp in the front, but on the sides, theres only about 1/4" overhang, and im worried that they will rub up against it, but i guess no one really stands that close to the joysticks.

I just bought a coin door from Mike and I had him wire up the reject buttons to "coin-up" when pressed.

It's more authentic (symbolically) than an additonal microswitch and it saves on space. He hooks it up with a toggle-switch so the option can be turned off if I just want to use quarters.

well that wont work cuz i got a coin door recently...as in yesterday  :) and its a 2 player coin door, so i need 4 buttons or four coin slots in order for that to work.  thanks for the tip though.

You kids are getting spoiled with your instant messengers, when I was a kid even email had a 15 minute to 48 hour lag... that's if it didn't get lost along the way.

Seriously though, with the 4 player panel I'd stick with what GGKoul is doing. Except I'd make it moron proof and use lit-up square buttons with inserts that say something like "25 cent credit". I did something similar on my last podium, except they were in the middle of the base like a fake coin door. The buyer seemed to like it... and he was a major moron.

here is what mine will look like, basically i'm going to setup mame so that every time i push the credit button a credit is given to every player, so i just humm on the button when i startup the game and then were good to go.

Wouldn't that mean that in games like Gauntlet, ALL players reveive health when the "Blue wizard is about to die" and the blue player needs extra health?
My point is that in some games, it matters in which coin slot is activated, so one button wouldn't work that well. Also, in single player games you'd get 4 credits.

BTW, I love the CP artwork! Very basic, very clean. Neat!

Go to radio shack and get 4 small buttons and install them on your coin door for credit buttons.

Although you might find that you have a lot of nearly useless buttons since many games share credits, and many (most. all?) 4 player games start with button one rather than a dedicated start button.

Not yet  ;) , 27 this month.... I'm Post-Mainframe. Though I did have the unfortunate experience of programming on IBM XTs (4mhz) and PC JR's (8mhz) my freshman year of high school. They were soon replaced by state-of-the-art IBM PS/2s (16mhz... maybe 32; at least they finally had hard drives and 3 1/2" floppy drives). Sadly my University was still using VAX when I graduated  :o

i'm not sure about gauntlet, i assume that all games can have credits beyond the playable amount that can be called apon with the player start button, but hey i'm sure my friends won't mind free health if i'm dieing. i doubt it will be a problem though, i mean how hard is it to have the player start and credit mapped to the same button? just go to imput (general) and map them to the same button or if there is a conflict with one game just map it for that specific game.

thanks, i tried a few designs but i ended up with this one, like you said basic and clean, cheap too ;)
