Auburn Themed Cabinet - My First Build
« on: February 21, 2012, 05:41:36 pm »
This was my first build.  I owe alot of appreciate to this board for their assistance and knowledge.  Also, Randy at Groovy Game gear for helping me out with the trackball.

My wife and I are both Auburn University graduates.  We have a game room and I decided that we needed a mame arcade!  I build it almost a year ago and am already wanting to do another one.  The controllers are happ competition 8 ways using an IPAC 4.  The buttons are from Twisted Quarter.  While I want to move on, this one is still not complete.  I think I want to add some side graphics and possibly some light guns.  But for now, here are some progress photos:

Thanks, LeChuck!  This was modeled around a Ultimate Arcade II cabinet.  I made the cabinet completely from scratch.

This is the side view.  I want to do some custom graphic for the upper portion of the cab but I need some ideas!   :dizzy: :dizzy:

The marquee shown in these pics is a temporary one.  I have since ordered one from Gameongraphix and it is in place!  Very happy with it.  I'll post more recent pics.

Not an Auburn fan but will be following this coming football season.  I am from the hometown of your new Offensive Coordinator and a friend of the family.  Scotty is a good one and good things are going to happen.  Can't wait to see more pics of your cab.....looking good.

Looking good, love the Jordan-Hare CPO.  Why 6 buttons for P3 and P4?  Running consoles?  Keep those pics coming.

Looking fairly solid!  One piece of advice is to fix that bezel a bit (or adjust the display) so it's more centered. If that's painted, maybe go a little deeper in with the black.  I'm also a little worried about the sideline controls.  The curve of the panel and where you need to stand due to (what I assume is) angled sticks may make it a little more uncomfortable or discombobulating.

But I do like where's it going otherwise.  Good job and good luck completing it.

Nice work.  Not sure about all the football comments as I am in Canada and it just does not have the same impact up here.

spocktwin, looking forward to seeing what Leffler (sp?) can do.    I didn't mean to turn this into a football debate, just sharing some of my work.

DaveMMR, thanks for advice.  Yea, I need to do something with the bezel.  I didn't paint as much black on the bezel because I knew that I would have to add the light pickup at somepoint for the light guns.  I thought I would mount it behind the bezel and wanted to leave room for it.  After I add the guns, I will finish up the paint and sturdy up the tv mount.

Here are a few more photos.  Also of my Auburn themed soda fountain in my gameroom.

Gonna be a big change for you guys.  I spent a few years in Big 12 (actually SWC back then) country, and it's... different... in SEC stadiums.  Damn fun, but it's not what you're used to.

Hopefully that first Auburn-A&M game this fall will be a night game...

Nice looking cab! I did a Wisconsin themed project back in 05. I ended up painting the side of it to look like the UW helmet. Might be a nice way to finish off the side of yours.

Considering my Tigers are headed to the National Championship game, I thought I would revive this thread!  Sorry but War Eagle.  I might have to add something else if we beat FSU!

ONE SECOND!!!!  This has been one of the best weeks EVAR!

I'd just like to add that I started university at MU and finished at AU so Sat's game was perhaps the most perfect storm of Awesome I could have ever hoped for.

Kudos to you! I love sports fans that can take good-natured ribbing. And honestly, I'd rather it was Auburn than ---smurfing--- Alabama or The Ohio State University. Great game.

Awesome game, Auburn put up a great performance. I didn't have a dog in the fight either way, but after hearing the Florida St fight song for the fiftieth time I was rooting for the upset! Seriously does that band know any other songs, or just that one?

To be fair, I was rooting for Free Shoes University because I'm sick of hearing how the SEC is supposed to be THE ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- when it comes to college football, but I don't dislike Auburn. Good school, good fans.

Nope.  That's all they know.  Seriously.  My team is in the ACC, and I really hate when they play each other because of that...

Yea, Manziel is incredible, you are lucky to have him.  The media does get carried away but I did see them getting a little carried away with Auburn in the pregame....but the attention was nice!

I don't know, he's fun to watch but other teams figured out his tricks and more or less had him covered all season.  All that loose cannon scrambling around is going to get him hurt quick in the NFL.  I know some in my family are praying the Cowboys pick him up but eh.  I'll start believing in the power of prayer when we have an all Texas Super Bowl.
