(and before anybody asks, no, this isn't the version with Marble Madness 2 supported, that submission missed the deadline and will be in next month's release)

Thanks for info guys.

I had Ultimarc rotary upgrade mod but I didn't like it at all - no block on rotation (just like NuclearWarren and PL1 mentioned no clicky movement) which leads to random switch. It was only good for Caliber 50.

The original SNK joystick (with micro switches) as I remember wasn't good in my opinion but at least works as it should.

For a spinner ThunderStick GRS seems to be good option but it's not available anywhere :/

Well, it appears that changing hardware does not make sense for me - only couple of games works now below 100% (mostly due net list analog audio) when I compare to older mame versions. Spending another 200 USD would be waste of money.

I can imagine it has, but so far I haven't really found anything to complain about.

Most stuff that broke or didn't work out was due to the glibc compatibility layer.

Just a random thought to throw out there anyway. :P
The glibc compatibility is a problem, alpine is more of a niche OS than something suited for our case. A number of people want to install Kodi or Steam. Kodi (back in 2019) wouldn't work with musl.

But, in case you didn't know, Alpine natively ships GroovyMAME instead of MAME ;)

Kudos to substring and calamity and eveyone that contributes to this groovyarcade 2022!!

Just replac3d my (old) 2016 groovy-setup on windows 7 with mame217 with this 2022 build with latest mame on this bare arch and i must say im very impressed! Almost 95% worked out of the box including p1 and p2 controls , attract mode, no booting issues.. no hickups ,perfect scaling..wow! My astro city shines like new thanks to your hard work
2 thumbs up guys 😎👌!

Glad you got it working like a breeze :) Now you can join us on discord and talk with users !

MAME 0.244

Given how many exciting updates have gone into MAME 0.244, itís hard to believe itís only been a month since the last release!  Only one disk has been added to the Apple II software lists, but it comes with a very engaging story involving physically damaged media and manual data repairs.  The Zilog Z80 CPU has had a bit of an overhaul this month, allowing more accurate memory access timings for the ZX Spectrum family.  This fixes a lot of broken visual effects and other glitches.  The HP 9000/300 series computers have had the necessary floppy disk image formats hooked up, allowing them to mount floppy disks from their software list.

MAMEís driver for JPMís first CPU-based fruit machine platform, dating all the way back to the late 1970s, has been almost completely rewritten this month.  Four games are now playable, albeit with minimal internal artwork.  Colour video output has been implemented for Zilecís Vortex.  Donít get too excited, though Ė while the approach they used to produce colourful graphics without adding any video memory is technically interesting, the results are very ugly and donít make a bad game any better.

Other improvements in arcade emulation include:
  • Score display and diorama control outputs have been hooked up for Bubble Trouble (this means youíll need updated artwork for Golly! Ghost! as well).
  • Layer offsets in Slap Fight and Alcon should be fixed, and cocktail mode now works for the original sets.
  • The communication board for Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle is now supported, allowing it to actually run in eight-player tournament mode.

SDL builds (the default for Linux and macOS) now detect game controller reconnection.  Note that due to limitations of SDL itself, MAME may confuse similar controllers, potentially causing issues if multiple controllers are disconnected at the same time.  Issues using MIDI input or output with 64-bit Windows builds should be fixed.

You can read about everything else thatís happened in the whatsnew.txt file.  As always, the source and 64-bit Windows binary packages are available from the download page.

To set the correct video mode with AdvanceMENU, you should run the AdvCfg binary and set the resolution to the one EDID has detected:

Code: [Select]
./frontend/advance/advcfg

10   Main Forum / Sanwa Joystick in 2 pin board?on Yesterday at 03:29:07 pm

I have a cheap old, USB flight/fight stick which I use for my Pi emulator. Its not great in terms of feel so I bought some Sanwa buttons and a Sanwa stick to swap out the cheap stuff.

I assumed it was just a wire up needed but I cant get it working at all, the buttons are fine but the stick will not work properly. Its a SANWA JLF-TP-8YT with a 5 pin connector, the board I was trying to connect it to seems to be for another type where it uses 2 wires/pins for each switch on the old joystick. I dismantled it and wired all the grounds together and connected what was UDRL to the correct UDRL wires from the provided SANWA wire. I could really only get either up or down to work then lots of the time it was just constantly scrolling or launching Kodi from Recalbox for some reason.

Was I wrong in assuming it could just be wired up and work?

I have ordered a new EG STARTS Zero Delay USB Encoder which has the 5 pin on it. Again I assume this will just work, this is all new to me.
