Help!! Do I need a mixer, an amp, a receiver or all 3?
« on: February 03, 2010, 12:19:48 pm »
OK guys and gals, I can really use some help here. When it comes to electronics, I’m lost, so any help you can give me would be appreciated.

I’m going to be building a wall box jukebox and it is going to have external speakers. I would like the option of hooking up external speakers when needed as well as a microphone for karaoke. What do I need to do all of that and what are my options since money is very tight? Do I need a mixer, an amp, and receiver?

To recap he’s what I would like to have

Internal speakers
External speakers when needed
Microphone input for Karaoke

Thanks!

technically its up to you, both work fine..... but if penny pinching is your thing....

For a mic you can easily rig up a mic to run to your pc without anything extra (assuming your computer has a line in, which 99% it does) and for speakers it all depends on what your situation is.... technically you can set up a a good set of computer speakers and they are fine for a smaller scenario.... now for a party you can run a line to your home amp (or if you wanna get fancy get a wireless audio transmitter to your amp...but thats gonna cost you some money)

so if you want have a good set of logitech speakers IN the juke and have a line out running to your amp you can use this cheep switcher (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=audio+switcher&hl=en&cid=1826391348938030511&sa=title#p)....

Oh i almost forgot here is a link to some decent free juke software! http://www.karafun.com/karaokeplayer/ (again free so its not the greatest, but defiantly great for being on the cheep)

I am currently building my first touchscreen juke, look out for my project announcement soon!! and feel free to send more questions... (i work for a TV broadcasting company, so my A/V skills are (they have to be) pretty well!)
