Need a list of Arcade game controls
« on: January 25, 2010, 05:39:52 am »
Is there a compiled list of MAME/arcade games and the required controllers and specific buttons for gameplay????

Apart from the obvious listing of 2/4/8 way joystick or trackball or dial or pedal etc, I'm after "intimate" info that also lists info on games when player 2 actually has to insert coins into  the player 2 slot as an example. And how many(and which) buttons are required during gameplay.

Is there a list like list available?

There are a few options to you depending on what you want to see.

MAWS - Is a database that you can use to search for all 4-way games that require X number of buttons.  Or trackball games that use 1 button.  Or (fill in the blank).  It's highly customizable for your search parameters.  Google MAWS and it'll be the first link that comes up.

Romlister is a program that you can download and run that shows a lot of the same info that MAWS shows.  The benefit to Romlister though is that it uses your version of Mame roms to tell you that info.  It can create lists too for your rom set that can be used within front ends so you can create a list of 8-way fighting games using 6 buttons or anything else you can sort by.

Controls.dat is a file that you can download that will integrate into certain front ends and it will show you the various controls for a certain game when you push a button or trigger it within your front end.

There are more features for each so you may need to search for each one individually or try them out.
