Tetris on a Vertical Cabinet?
« on: January 21, 2010, 06:10:11 pm »
Hi All,

I'm almost done with my vertical cab (I have my game list all ready to go), but I was wondering if anyone got Tetris (the version pictured in the pic below) to display halfway decent on a vertical setup.  I don't mind if it skews or anything, so long as I don't see the black lines typical if a horizontal game is run on a vertical setup.

I remember reading somewhere that the cocktail version can be run successfully on a vertical setup (or was I mistaken?)
**EDIT: Found it mentioned here

Any ideas?

The ROM you're showing is "atetris" and the vertically oriented version referred to in the thread you linked to is "atetcktl", which is a clone of "atetris".

I'm not a fan of the layout on the cocktail version but you're thoughts might differ...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Cocktail Tetris will display on a vertical monitor, however, if you try and play 2 players, the screen gets split in half, with each half facing the player (imagine them sitting at opposite ends of a cocktail table). Great for cocktail machines, not so great for 2-player side by side uprights.
NO MORE!!

Is there some setting that allows you to have a single player game display full screen that I'm missing?  I just tried a single player game and it was still split as if I were playing two player...

Also thought I'd mention that I'm using a really OLD version of MAME.  0.36 (If I recall) running on a DOS machine.  I don't believe it has the video options in the tab menu to mess with the settings to allow it to display properly.  I think I tried it previously and it looked like crap but I decided to give it another go.  I'll try it when I get home tonight.

However, I have another vertical cab I am also building with a newer dual core processor (Win XP and MAME .119).  It has the tab options.  Any tips for getting it to look perfect on a vertical cab?

Thanks again for the tips!

I play atetris, klax and tapper on my vertical cab.  It's not the best solution but it's either that or not play them at all...

Yeah, I have to admit I have a couple of Horizontal games on there too.  Namely Zookeeper and Elevator Action.  :)  Sometimes it can't be helped!  LOL.
