control panel help
« on: January 17, 2010, 06:01:01 pm »
I just got an orignial pacman cabinet that was converted to commando.  I am going to restore the cab back to pacman, but make it a mame machine.

Questions:  Is there enough room on the control panel for two sets of 6 button controlls?  The control panel is only 23" wide.  Do you think this will be too crammed?  I changed around a pacman cp overlay to accomodate 2 joysticks and still look pac-ish?  What does everyone think?

I just overhauled a cabinet of the same size (it was an old "Mr. Du!") and was able to design a very good 2 player CP with 3 buttons for each. I must say however that it is a tad cramped and if you are wanting to make one with 6 buttons each, chances are you will be disappointed with the results. There just isn't enough space to make it ergonomically friendly and functional.

I was thinking the nice thing about these bally/midway cabinets is that the control panel snaps right out.  I could make 2, one original pacman and 1 for fighting games.  If I wire a ipac to a multi pin connector I could leave it inside the cab and interchange them whenever I want.
