Mala folder structure ?
« on: January 13, 2010, 02:17:42 pm »
I used to have mame installed in my arcade. Now I want to use other emu and have a nice front end.
Look like mala is the way to go.

2-3 days ago, I have started a new install of Mala but more the more I read, the more I found new fonction.

So far, I have installed mame emu, atari 2600 emu, atari 5200, atari 7800. More emulator will be installed later

Last night, I was able to install a mame layout. Now I'm reading on who to install different layout with different.

That beeing said, I realize that the structure of my folder should be change a little bit in order to make the different layout worked with the appropriate emulator.

This is what I have right now

C:\Emulators
C:\Emulators\mala (all the mala file here)
C:\Emulators\mame
C:\Emulators\mame\roms
C:\Emulators\mame\snap
C:\Emulators\atari 2600
C:\Emulators\atari 2600\roms
C:\Emulators\atari 5200\
C:\Emulators\atari 5200\roms

You see the pattern?

Now with the installation of the layout. Should I go like this

C:\Emulators
C:\Emulators\mala (I will place the .mll files here)
C:\Emulators\mala\mame (I will place the mame layout files here)
C:\Emulators\mala\atari 2600 (I will place the atari 2600 layout files here)
C:\Emulators\mala\atari 5200 (I will place the atari 5200 layout files here)

Does it look right?

Thanks a lot for you help.

PS: after the installation of all the layout, I will try to give it a try to the malatree fonction (look nice !!!)

All your layouts should be in the Mala layout folder....

C:\Emulators\mala\Layouts (all the layout files & pics here)

The name of the layout file must be exactly the same as what you named the emulator when you added it to MALA.
In MALA options under GUI, check the box next to "Emulator" underneath Auto Layout Switch

I was able to install 2 layouts....1 for mame and 1 for atari 2600.

When I switch emulator, the layout change  :applaud:

This is the structure that I have used:

C:\Games\Mala (this is were I put all the mala file + all the .mll file for the mame and atari 2600.....if you download a layout for mame and that the name of the .mll is something like this gala640.mll.....you have to rename that file the same way as your folder name.....mame.mll)
C:\Games\Mala\Mame (this is were I put the graphic file for the mame emulator like bg.jpg...etc)
C:\Games\Mala\Atari 2600 (this is were I put the graphic file for the atari 2600 emulator like atari2600.jpg...etc)

C:\Games\Emulator\Mame (this is were I put all the mame program file and emulator)
C:\Games\Emulator\Mame\Roms (this is were I put the mame roms)
C:\Games\Emulator\Mame\Snaps (thsi is were I put the mame snaps)
C:\Games\Emulator\Atari 2600 (this is were I put the atari 2600 files and emulator stella.exe)
C:\Games\Emulator\Atari 2600\Roms (this is were I put the atari 2600 roms)

C:\Games\Backup (all my backup files)

Sometime, you have to exit and reenter mala program in order to active the new layout that you have just put....

Good luck

Yeah that's what happens in a forum, you ask a question and then someone replies to it.
