Sound Question
« on: January 08, 2010, 11:04:57 am »
I am trying to find out the best speaker solution for my cabinet.  My parents gave me a pair of their former speakers they used in their surround sound set-up and a sub-woofer.  I really have no idea what I am doing and trying to figure out if its worth using these speakers and if so how do I set it up.  Is there a page that goes into details of this?  Anyone have a walk through about this?  Is it something simple?  Thanks.

I read alot about people using subs in there cabs, but I opted to just use 2 stereo speakers and I'm glad i did! It sounds more than adequate without a sub (which I saved for my juke build)!

My suggestion (assuming you have fairly decent speakers) is to just buy one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110473432917&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

and get a 3.5mm to phono lead! Plug it into your headphone jack of your PC and away you go! There is a thread somewhere here about this amp! Plenty of people got them and they are fantastic for the price!

If you are building a jukebox instead def go with a sub!

I've seen threads where people used little amps like that. I bet they would work great, assuming you had a decent set of speakers.

My little Altec Lansing set, with the sub, worked out pretty good for my cab. But if I'd had a spare set of standard speakers, i'd definitely have considered that.
