Ipac4 issue?
« on: December 30, 2009, 12:13:18 am »
I havew wired up only one player to my Ipac4, It worked the first time I booted up the PC, but now I cant get it to work at all, does it need all players wired to work?

Its wired using ps/2 m/m.

I also the led on ipac flashes twice and then stays on,
according to Ultimarc only 5+ times means anything on the ipac4.... http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac2.html (see table).

Thanks in advance for any help. ???

According to that page, 2 flashes and then steady should be 'working okay'

Quote
Power applied: One short flash
PS/2 Interface detected: a second short flash
If switch test passed: LED stays lit

What happens if you open up notepad and hit buttons?

Did you change anything between the time it worked and now? (Installed a new copy of mame, changed bios settings, updated the ipac firmware, etc)

Nothing, even in winipac nothing.

restart with keyboard plugged in, keyboard works fine.
then I unplug keyboard and plug in ipac ps/2, computer beeps (onboard mono speaker thing)
plug keyboard in to ipac, and all works fine.

After restart, keyboard and ipac dont work, but ipac led and keyboard number lock led are on normally.

Confused!

If it works and then stops working after a reboot, that helps narrow it down.

We need to see if it's a bios issue or an OS issue.

Do you have some other OS you can boot off of, like a ubuntu live CD or something like that?

I only have xp on my mame pc, I have a laptop using vista (which Im using now) but has no ps/2 input, how do I determine if it is a bios issue?

I mean, I can't think of anything that could happen in the BIOS that would make it behave this way, I'm just trying to cover all the bases.

Hmmm, thanks for your help, Im hoping the ultimarc guy may chime in next time he's online.

Its a real pain in the ass! :-[

worked first time, maybe I changed something in stickykeys, was trying to play and all these annoying messages kept popping up every few minutes - because of button presses.

If you have a keyboard plugged into the pass-through connector on the I-PAC you could try rebooting without this connected and see if the I-PAC still works. Also try another keyboard.
If the I-PAC is very old, (ie around the time XP first came out) there is another fix, best drop me an email if this is the case.

Andy helped me out with this one :applaud:, was a problem with my computer not the Ipac4,
switching to a USB/Ps2 cable solved the problem and now works perfectly!
