PSX to USB Adapter Question

Good morning all,

My apologies if this should be in a different forum but I couldn't tell which one to post in (moderators feel free to relocate the thread). 
My question: I have two dance pads that are PSX compatible.  My old PSX to USB adapter died so I purchased another one off eBay.  When I install the adapter it loads two "TWIN USB JOYSTICK" configurations; this doesn't help me at all because the dance pads are actually "4 AXIS 16 BUTTON" controllers.  The twin usb joystick doesn't recognize the pads at all, I presume as it is something entirely different.  Is there any way for me to be able to get the new adapter to load as 4 axis 16 button's?

What adapter did you buy?

You can look into a Trio Linker Plus.  It supports PSX dance pads I believe.

Unfortunately, if you can't find updated drivers, you may need to get a new adapter.

The adapter came with a very small disc labeled "drivers"; it's tiny though so I presume it's for a laptop? (never having owned one I don't know if it would fit a laptop CD-Rom?)  Either way the adapter will never load anything other than as a TWIN USB Joystick right?  Adding drivers wouldn't change that fact?

Laptop CD-rom is the same size as standard...  both can read the normal size and mini discs.

If you haven't added the drivers at all, that could be your problem.  It may have software to read the controller properly.  I know my Trio-Linker Plus is like this.  You have to add the drives to get it to work right.

Excuse my ignorance with this question; putting the mini disc in my CD ROM is the equivalent of putting a dime in the middle of a donut...how do I get the disc to load then?

There should be a smaller ring in your disc drive tray to set the smaller disc into.

Usually, there's a minidisc size indention in the tray, if it's a slot load CD, you're probably out of luck.

I just picked up a PSX to USB adapter for dance pads, First I got a hvg2 from Frys.

Total fail. It treats the directional arrows as joysticks, so you can't press left and right at the same time.

Then I picked up an EMS USB2. It works, but not under Win764. The drivers won't load and you need them to be able to map the arrows to buttons properly.

The good thing is my cab is running Vista 32, and the drivers work fine there. Plus the company seems to be in process of making 64bit drivers.

Yeah, HKEMS has always been good about updating their drivers.  I miss Lik-Sang, that's where I used to get all of their stuff...

My understanding has been that various game controller to PC adaptors give problems with dance pads.  This includes even the standard Xbox 360 controller drivers when used with 360 dance pads.

I have the same and it works great but the disk drivers are junk and I had to download something different for it to work with everything correctly.

if there is in indent in your drive tray for the disk to sit then it is fine the tray close's and the spindle hub goes up and locks the disk to the upper locking ring in the drive's case top.

as long as the tray has a spot for the disk to sit in then it will be fine as that is all the tray is and does and all hubs fit cd dvd mini etc.
