Standard button/joystick placing distance
« on: December 20, 2009, 04:41:47 pm »
Hi all i'm new here,
I'm also new to the arcade scene and am looking for a little bit of guidance! I picked up an old nondescript arcade cabinet that i'm looking to turn into a mame cabinet.

The old control panel was a 3-button layout and the one i'm going to make is a 6-button layout with player 1 and 2 start buttons. I was just wondering what are the standard distances:
a) between buttons and,
b) between the joystick and the buttons?
The control panel size is 54 x 5.5cm - so not a huge amount of room to work with.

Thanks!

Bobulus

Slagcoin has some nice details. I printed out an 8-button layout I liked, and use it to make the marks on the wood that I used to drill the holes. Nice and easy.

Feel free to download my Visio template from http://www.notrica.com/arcade

The layout works really well for me.

i always liked to make my own layouts, i try to keep the button centers 1.5" apart, and at least 3" between joystick hole and button hole (at center)
