Configure SDLMame for 2nd trackball?
« on: December 20, 2009, 01:58:18 pm »
I just "upgraded" my dedicated Mame cab hardware from a 1GHz PIII box to an Athlon XP 1800 box.

My CP has dual Xarcade 3" trackballs mounted to it.  Previously both were working wonderfully running on the old box under Win XP.

Since I upgraded, I got irritated with Microsoft and loaded Fedora 12 onto the box and got SDLMame running.

Now at this point let me be clear....both trackballs work.  They both work under Xwindows and they both work in Mame.  However, Mame only recognizes them as a single trackball and thus moving either trackball will move the cursor.  As a result, any two player games which use two trackballs....say Marble Madness.....isn't playable for two players because I can't assign the second trackball to player 2.  Mame doesn't seem to distinguish between them.

Previously (under a *very* old Mame version) they were identified in Mame as "mouse0" and "mouse1".

I have a feeling this is just a minor tweak I need to make to a Mame config file somewhere, but I'll be darned if I can figure it out.  Any help?

Did you enable -multiplemice?  (Currently the default is off.)

Sounds like a winner!  I'll give that a shot.  Really, really appreciate the response.  I was almost ready to go back to Win XP.

Thanks again.

OK...it appears for SDLMame the actual option is -multimouse

Still giving that a try......
