I need to take a PC monitors wire from the flyback to the monitor and make it longer, can I splice 6-8 " of wire in there, or will it mess with current flow, etc?  Probably a noob question but I guess I just want to be sure... :dunno

you would need to seal the connection with the correct amount of insulation otherwise it will arc,i have never seen it done myself

I would not recommend it. Rather relocate things so that it will reach naturally.

You have to remember there is between 12-20 THOUSAND volts on that line.

How about the degauss wires, those should be okay to cut and extend right?  I have to cut one or the other to get this to fit..... :banghead:

They're special wire.  You don't want to cut them either.  Though you can probably live without them and manually degauss if you have to.

Explain the circumstance, please!

Well, I am trying to put a normal CRT into an older WG 4900 monitor brackets, the neckboard at the angle I am installing needs to sit kinda low, I dont want to use a LCD so I am trying to get this CRT in the cab, I just am having a hard time getting the wires to fit, so I cut the degauss wires  and just added spades and recepticles to it, no arcing can occur, I just done want it to be a problem, its a 19" Viewsonic, If I "fewk" it up I suppose its $10 down the drain, but I just dont want the hassle, trust me, i have no options here to get to fit right without cutting the degauss since I should not mess with the flyback wire..........I guess I will see what happens, unless you all think its definite failure..........

the anode lead can be spliced if one can find a hv splice kit.  otherwise NOT recommended.
focus lead also requires special insulation as it can carry 6kv - 12kv.
screen grid is not as much of a problem as usually <500v max. should still insulate securely

for deguassing wires , use same wire guage as orig , and insulate accordingly (120vac usa)
