How many buttons for my control panel? Which games use the most?
« on: December 08, 2009, 12:42:22 pm »
Hi,

Building my first cabinet here and I've gotten to the part of laying out the control panel. I see that most people do a joystick with 6 buttons but I can't seem to find which games use 6 buttons. I know MK uses 5 but what else?

Thanks for your help.

Tony

street fighter series, marvel vs capcom...those types of games.  if you are not into fighters, then you really don't need 6 buttons.  however most people either occasionally enjoy a round of street fighter, or have friends who will want to play it when they come over, so we go with 6 buttons.

You serious?  Never heard of Street Fighter II?  It came out well before MK.

It also doesn't hurt to have extra buttons, just because they are there you don't have to use them but on the other hand if you only had 5 buttons you would have to sacrifice either a punch or kick to play the game.

You might want to check this other thread out:  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=98656.0

There are links and images in there that might be useful when it comes time for you to actually make your panel.
