A couple of freebox doubts....
« on: December 07, 2009, 06:41:37 pm »
I'm trying out freebox for my touchscreen juke, and so far i seem to love that piece of software, i tried the freebox forums, but somehow they are really really slow, so i though posting my doubts here;

#1 .- it seems that freebox reads the music by the id3 and not by the folder structure, so i get a whole bunch of various artist albums or no info on tracks, so i was wondering if theres a way to make freebox to read the music by the folder structure instead, kind of like in skjukebox.

#2 i know its 25 to buy, its that per PC or per member, can i pay the 25 and use that on 2 PCs?

Hello abispac,

Let me help you with E-Touch formerly know as Freebox.

#1 E-Touch uses both, folder structure and ID3 tags. The folder structure has to be like this:

Music
Music/Artist
Music/Artist/Album
Music/Artist/Album/Artist - 01 - Song Title.mp3
Music/Artist/Album/Artist - 02 - Song Title.mp3
Music/Artist/Album/Artist - 03 - Song Title.mp3
Music/Artist/Album/Artist - 04 - Song Title.mp3
Music/Artist/Album/cover.jpg
Music/Artist/Album/coversmall.jpg

For a song that has 2 artist such as : Jaimia Fox's Blame It Featuring T-Pain it needs to be like this:

Music/Artist/Album/Jamie Foxx - 05 - Blame It (feat. T-Pain).mp3

The song above is from the NOW Thats What I Call Music 31 CD so the file will look like this:

C:\Music\Now\Now That's What I Call Music! 31\Jamie Foxx - 05 - Blame It (feat. T-Pain).mp3

Your ID3's should all have the same Album name, but the song artist and title being the only differentiating variables in the ID3 tag.

Get your album covers from google image search, wal mart.com or amazon.com. Make them 400 x 400 for the cover.jpg and 170 x 170 for the coversmall.jpg . All the covers in each folder must be named the same; hence the cover.jpg & coversmall.jpg

#2 You can put E-Touch on as many computers as you like as long as you own the computers. This is a faith and trust in you issue. It would be easy to pass the program around to many computers and friends, but since you paid for it, why would you just give it away to someone else without them paying.

Barry Barcrest is a freelance programmer that has a regular job, but loves the work he does on the side with E-Touch. He has made a few extra bucks from the program, but nothing near to where he can quit his day job and live off of. He keeps it updated and fresh unlike 95% of the other jukebox programs available. Most are 3 plus years out of date with no chance for any updates as they have been abandoned. E-Touch is modestly priced at $25.00 (US) to attract customers unlike most of the $50.00+ (US) programs that you can buy, but without updates. When you buy it, you get almost on the spot answers with your questions via the forum. Skins are being made at a very fast pace as some veteran users are pumping them out in their spare time (Eist, Squirrley, Coffee & Bluemeaniest to name a few). If you need a feature added, the idea is passed around through the forum and beta tested before being released to the paying users.

As for the forums being slow, I have to assume you mean by getting your questiones answered or the speed of the forum itself? I havent seen any questions not getting answered. Some of the veteran users are quick to respond and usually give a reason for or against an idea, why or why not, how to or explain how not to. Remember, alot of the users are from all over the globe, I am from the USA, Barry is from the UK, Coffee is from South Africa, so there are time differences and time lapses between questions asked and answered.

Sometimes the forums are slow in a speed aspect. This has been an issue for a while as Barry has had some ISP issues. He has had to bounce the forum between ISP's in the last year to keep it up and running. User Kizer has graciously given Barry ftp space to host the releases and skins and I also have even given Barry ftp space for other things. The E-Touch users respect the program enough to pay for the ftp space as we want the best bang for our donated buck!

E-Touch is by far the best touchscreen jukebox software. There are others that are free but not in the same league and have the following E-Touch has!

Give E-Touch another shot! The forums are a little slow today but I think that it is a sattelite issue as alot of ISP's from Europe are slow today in the USA. At work we were having issues communicating with Saarlouis France over the internet in the last 36 hours.

Like mentioned. I try to offer up all the hosting needs he needs for the app. Its an app I truely believe in and I will continue to do so as long as its an active project.

Barcrest has been working on the project for years. He does it because he loves it, the challenge and I'm sure the donations he gets now and then really help. Just remember everything he gets is then reduced because hes in the UK.

Every request or every problem I've ever had has been addressed and most of them have been incorporated into his software.

It just works. Lately I've noticed his forum has been a bit wacky and slower than a snail, but I'm not sure whats going on there. Hes a software developer not a web master and he will be the first person to tell you that he hates it because its not the kinda code hes used to playing with.

I think i fixed up the site issues, looks like it was pointing to the old host for the template files or something equally as wacky. It should all be fine now judging by the reports I have had back, sorry for the down time.

I did reply to your post about the tags, yes they are required however if you have a good directory structure tagging them with a filename mask using Tag & Rename should be fairly painless.
