Best possible hardware for mame?
« on: November 30, 2009, 12:35:21 am »
Hi,

I've been planning my cabinet for awhile and now I have hit a hurdle. I was going to use an older mac to run the system but it can't play any of the newer street fighter style games. So now I'm looking on Craigs list for a PC. I found a Dell with a Pentium D Dual core 3.0GHz and 128MB pci express graphics card.

Does anybody think this won't be enough to run ANY mame rom?

Thanks

Bobulus

Any mame rom? Well, to be honest, these games are being emulated for accuracy and not speed, so there are games on the list that won't run (at full speed) for the best consumer computer out there. Haven't looked at the newer street fighter games, so I'm not sure where they would be in terms of needed pc power.

I have a P4 in my cab (3.4 I think) and it runs pretty much most of the games up to Street Fighter 3 and  works fine with Genesis and Snes emulation. The mame games it doesn't run I don't think most people would miss but I am toying with the idea of getting a new computer to play SF4 but I feel mame is pretty much covered.
