Direct X Error (8007000E)
« on: November 29, 2009, 09:45:17 pm »
Please Help. When I try to run games through Mala Frontend (Version 1.05) a MS DOS box comes up and says;

'Warning: Device may not preform well for Direct 3D renderering
Unable to create the Direct 3D device (8007000E)
Unable to initialise Direct 3D
Unable to complete window creation.'

And then it just goes back to the main Mala Menu. I tried just running the games with MAME (version 0132) and the same message appears. I figured this was a Direct X problem so I went into the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. In the Display tab I ran the Direct 3D tests and it did version 7 and 8 alright but when it got to 9 a message came up which said 'Hardware accelerated Direct3D 9+ is not available because the display driver does not support it.  You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer.'
I tried just simply installing Direct X 9 but the same messages keep coming up. I've looked everywhere for drivers but I was unsuccessful.
The computer I'm using isn't that great but its only for games from the 80's, so you would presume it wouldn't need to be that good. The specs for computer are as follow;

IBM Corporation
Aptiva
Microsoft Windows 98 (4.10, Build 2222)
AuthenticAMD
AMD-K6(tm) 3D Processor,  MMX,  3D Now,  500MHz
120.0 MB of RAM
Direct X Version: Direct X 8.1 (4.08.0001.0881)

Thanks in advance.

Many applications today require DirectX 9 at a minimum.  Not trying to be a smartass, but I'm not sure what games from the 80s have to do with it.

Mala wasn't written in the 80s or 90s and most here are not actually running games from that era, but emulating them which requires more horse power.  Do you have another video card you can stick into it?  I am not sure you will find a Windows 98 driver that supports DirectX 9.

Did you change your mame.ini file at all? I've run MAME on non-directx9-capable computers before, so I don't think that's the problem.
