hacked keyboard problems
« on: July 20, 2003, 08:02:26 pm »
I have a simple plastic box with 1 joystick and 3 buttons - I hacked a keyboard to wire it together - "keyhack" shows the keys as functional right left up down alt control space

mame at best recognizes the fire button only

ps/2 and I have a usb adaptor for it -

What am I missing?

I am not familiar with keyhack but when you check the keys is it the Left Ctl and Left Alt that you have wired into for your keyboard hack?

Make sure none of your connections are crossed and that none of your soldered points are touching 2 contacts on the PCB.

Also, do the key presses work in other applications? (open a document in Notepad & try moving the cursor around with the joystick. etc...)

If all else fails, use different keys for the buttons/diections & remap them in MAME.

Keep us posted with your results...
Good luck!

I found the control.cfg file for mame - edited it and got it to work - always figure it out after the fact

Sorry but doesn't anyone see the humour in a thread title like that? LMFAO

yeah really, as far as I can tell "hacked keyboard" is logically equivalent to "problems".

looks stable - only running 1 joystick and 3 buttons

just a garbage test box joystick
