T-Molding tip

I drove all over the county today looking for a 3/32 nd router bit to make the groove for the t-moulding. No-one has them in stock. I glanced down at my table-saw and it dawned on me....the blade...how thick is the blade? Wouldn't you know, the blade is 3/32 nds!!!

That is a good tip.... if one has a table saw.

FWIW I thought most t-molding has/wants a 1/16th inch channel...er.. slot ...

*shrug*  But I can definitelly see where it would be difficult to find that particular bit unless you went to a real wood working type place...

(although I got mine for 16 beans including arbor with free shipping from mlcs ... (damn, i wonder if they have an affiliate program -- all the time I've dropped there name/url))

Also t-molding.com also sells the bit... *shrug*

Just thought i'd pile on with that info... I wish I had a table saw... and a router...and a good drill... and a workshop to use them in... =(

On the t-moulding site,  all of the sample images measure out the width of the cut to 3/32nds. I could have ordered On-Line....but I had the time today to kill on the MAME project and I simply couldn't wait!

I also learned a valuable lesson about contact cement.

I wanted to finish my control panel today. I had the artwork printed and used 3 mil laminate on the bottom with "Floor Guard" laminate on the top (gives it that textured Video Game feel "

As for the contact cement, don't wait too long to apply the pieces together!!!  ARGH!!!  I had to laboriously peel off the dried contact cement and re-apply to the art and plywood.

All in all, the control panel turned out pretty well! There is a small vertical bubble where I didn't get all of the dried contact cement off the wood. Hardly noticeable though. Just waiting for the t-moulding and I am basically done.**

** I am in the process of converting a trashed Data East Jamma cabinet to a MAME cabinet.

Bosch makes T-molding slotting bits in 1/16" and 5/32" and two styles of arbors for them.  Lowes doesn't stock them, but they will special order them for you. I haven't checked Home Depot, but if they carry Bosch router bits they can order the slotting bits as well.

FWIW, the t-molding slots in my sitdown RoadBlasters cabinet are all 5/32".
