(Looking for) Opinions of Back to the Future
« on: November 16, 2009, 11:04:24 am »
Just curious of the general opinion of this machine - there's one available fairly local to me for about $800, which seems like a pretty good deal, but I've never played this game.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Koz

I like it, great sound.  Might actually benefit from not having the actors' faces on it.  I would not mind owning one for a while.

Guys who consider themselves pinball wizards say it is too easy.

I think it's a great theme and a pretty fun game. For some reason people claim that they're tough to maintain, but I've never heard specifically why. I love the sounds on it.

I haven't played it, but the asking price seems lower than most I see posted for sale.

I've played a little of it. It plays pretty decent and as everyone says it has great sound. I've played better games but I played a lot worse games too. I haven't had that much play on one but it appeals to me just because of the theme (seen all 3 BTTF movies a billion times).

Speeaking of Data East eras... anyone remember the slogan from Data East of "You can crack a walnut with our flippers"? After talking to Joe Kaminkow every now and then, they actually did indeed test the flippers to try and crack a walnut. I think that is one of the few industry tested statements of any industry of such strange randomness.

Data East did a lot for pinball in regards to innovation. I think they really pushed Bally and Williams to up their game. I guess they were Sega to Nintendo.

I like the way you put that! I truly agree on most aspect of that. The only thing I have to look at is Williams yanked out before they would realize P2K was a huge money maker for operators and Data East was falling out before Sega bought them. Though technically Data East lives on as Stern but don't get me started on Stern.

Speaking of Data East eras... anyone remember the slogan from Data East of "You can crack a walnut with our flippers"?

Not to mention the ramps and plastics...

Ever seen a Data East Secret Service? The flippers have decals on them that say "pulverizer" on them...by looking at the last one I worked on, they weren't joking!  :duckhunt

Pinball 2k was crap.  Its short lived draw of customers checking them out,
quickly faded once people played a few games and saw how horrible the
pins played.  Super shallow.  Too easy.  Snore fest.

All the Video Animations in the world would not make a stinker pinball "fun".
And you cant make pinball fun, when 85% of the playfield is limited
due to a display sitting in the middle of it.

Had Williams tried to stick it out with P2k, they would have went into
the poor house in no time flat.

If P2k would have been in the backbox only.. it may have had a chance.
But a Playfield killer?  Nope.  Doesnt work.  Not fun.
