What games support push pull spinner?
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:41:50 pm »
I know about Discs of Tron but were there any other games that support the push pull?

I am asking because I am about to hand over this arcade I have been building for a friend and I want to be able to tell him what games he can use it on.

Thx
Mark

I'm still in the planning stages of building my first cabinet.  What I can't seem to confirm anywhere, but I seem to remember, is that Front Line used a spinner that utilized PUSH, but not pull.  I'm told that a push/pull spinner would work for that.

With that info, I pose these questions, as Discs of Tron and Front Line are 2 games that I really want to be able to play.

1) Will a push/pull spinner work with Front Line?  I wouldn't have to pull it back into position, would I?  I really don't remember the mechanism..

2) Which would be the front running push/pull spinner that would allow me to play DoT, Front Line and also the likes of Arkanoid, Tempest.

3) I'm imagining that I could play certain driving games with the spinner...(Super Sprint, Off Road, etc).  Is this feasible?  This would most likely be the only reason I would contemplate adding 2 spinners to my CP.

Thanks in advance!!

Oh, and a bonus question....has anyone played Shuffleshot with a trackball?  It looks to be the main reason I'm adding a trackball as I'm not huge on golf and could live without centipede & marble madness.  I think bowling games and possibly this Shuffleshot would be lots of fun.

Wow ShuffleShot, COOL, never heard of it. I will be installing that tonight.

I got this spinner, http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86&products_id=311

It is the Turbo Twist push/pull spinner

You do not have to pull it back into position, it is on a spring. I like it alot.

Mark
p.s. I am not sure about FrontLine, will install and let you know.

Front Line's push was to use it like a button; you'd aim with the dial, and push down to shoot, and another button to grenade (which was annoying because it forced you to stop shooting/aiming and move your hand over to the button).

You could probably get away with using a trigger stick and normal spinner.

And by the way, Front Line's "spinner" was actually an 8-position dial.

Forgotten Worlds uses push-down spinner, and Zwackery uses the full up/down.
NO MORE!!

I have ShuffleShot on my cab and I play it with a trackball.  It's pretty fun with a group of people and some drinks.  Also check out World Class Bowling.
I'm not a golf fan either, but I put Golden Tee 3D on my cab and it's actually kind of fun to play.  All these games are great party games.

Have you done a search at MAWS? That should tell you all you need to know.

Zwackery comes to mind.  But you would also need a trigger type stick for sword and shield buttons.  The spinner button was casting spells and pickup items.

Let me add a question on this subject...

I'm currently considering a spinner on my CP to play Arkanoid. For this a "regular" spinner would work. However, I would like to have games that rely on push/pull funcionality to be playable as well.

Would the push/pull be possible to emulate on standard arcade buttons (doesn't need to have perfect results as those are not my favorite games) or would I necessarily need a spinner that can push/pull?

Thanks!

IG-88 Yes I did do a search at MAWS first. Their search function isnt very good when you wanna search for just spinner games.

Karnako I am sure you can map buttons the the push pull but that would destroy the playability of the game.

That's a great idea Karnako.  I hadn't thought of that.  I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of the push/pulls out there versus what I'd want for use with Arkanoid, Tempest, etc..  Discs Of Tron is the main game I want the push/pull for and I'd probably be the only one playing it (I remember my friends all got frustrated with the game controls, back in the day).  I'd be curious too, as to how feasible it would be to use buttons.

I don't think it would work too well...DoT already has an 8-way stick that has a trigger (throw disc) & a thumb button (shield).  I can't imagine getting 2 more buttons anywhere that's accessible to your already-occupied hands... ???

Oh, good call.  I forgot about the shield.  I was only thinking of a flight/type stick w/trigger (no buttons).  Actually, now that I think about it, I have no idea what flight type joysticks are even available!

Aren't there flight sticks with 2 thumb buttons as well as a trigger?

You can buy them with 0, 1, or 2 thumb buttons from  Happ.

2 buttons are needed for Xenophobe, Us Vs. Them, & a few other games.

Thanks!   ;D  Thanks?   :-\  Thanks!?!?   :P

 ;)

Yup, I'm happy with the Apache Push/Pull spinner (pricy, but a good product), & the Happ stick is solid too.  The red Satan's Hollow case is swell & fits my cab theme well too.  If only my arms were a bit longer, I'd be more comfortable reaching the farther controls...

Thanks,

It's an original Happ 2-thumb-button triggerstick & a Groovy Game Gear Satan's Hollow reproduction case.

It went together fine--I printed my own insert on photo paper & installed it behind the clear insert that came with the GGG case (after pulling the GGG sticker off & dremeling 2 holes--didn't want to drill lest I crack the plastic).  This turned out to be a little too thick & a little tough to reassemble, but that was my fault.  "Normal" assembly should be easy.

Yup, the X-Arcade trackball on the right side of my cabinet is for Marble Madness, Cabal (or Blood Brothers?), Rampart, and the few other games that use more than 1 trackball.

Thanks,
-Jason
