HELP PLEASE!!!
« on: November 05, 2009, 07:52:11 pm »
So, for some reason, while playing games on my control panel, the player 1 joystick raises and lowers the volume. I guess the computer is set up allowing the arrow keys to change the volume, but obviously this isnt practical for mame. Any ideas how to fix?

Dell Dimension 8300 running windows XP. Control panel is wired to an ipac2, which is connected by Ps2 to the computer.

First, open the Winipac utility and ensure the key mappings are all as you like them. Second, go into MAME's 'TAB' menu and ensure that the mappings for player 1 up/down aren't also mapped to MAME's software volume control. Third, ensure that in Windows no shortcuts have been assigned to alter the system volume.

A question I asked a couple of months back was if you could control the volume in MAME by one key press. So is this actually possible without going to the menu then using the cursor keys to adjust up/down?

That's MAME's volume control.  There is obviously a combination of keys that is being pressed that MAME is interpreting as volume up.  You need to look at your config and figure out what volume up is set to.  The only other thing it could be is the tilde key (` and ~) being triggered and just bringing up volume screen.

This must mean your interface is also mapped to - and = for your joystick's up and down. Check in MAME'S TAB menu under 'player 1 controls' and see. If it is, you will either need to re-map your keys for either up/down, remap MAME's volume controls to other keys, or re=program your interface with new key mappings. If these are all as they should be and both the the joystick mappings and the volume keys are mapped differently, it probably means your i-pac is buggered and sending 'ghost keys'.

So.. I changed the settings for volume from - and = to none for both, yet the problem still occured? Then I changed the keys that stood for up down left right to some random keys that werent being used, and that fixed the problem.  :)

Soo thanks for all your help.
