First time Nub CP question about dust washers...
« on: October 29, 2009, 02:18:13 pm »
I have 2 Perfect 360 joysticks and I am going to mount them into 5/8 MDF since I will be adding a 1/8 plexi.  I am bottom mounting these sticks.  There is a space on top of the hub assembly to allow for the washer.  Is it typical to mount the stick with the washer under the 3/4" of panel?  The idea is to leave as much of the CPO uncovered as possible.  It seems pretty cut and dry but will any issues come up from doing this?  Kinda a side note... has anyone played around with the hole for these joysticks?  I have used autocad to determine the smallest hole necessary for these sticks and it seems like I can get away with a 4/5" hole (given the use of 5/8" metal sleeve around the shaft)?!

well according ot some of the folks here the "correct" way or rather the way they was intended to be mounted is
with the dust cover under the panel..

but i seen VERY few machines setup like this, even brand new dedicated games usually had it mounted on top.

so while some say the correct way is under. the fact of the matter is the usual method was on top.

this is gonna be a personal choice for you, personally i think i prefer mine on top.
Anyone got change for a dollar?

My opinion:
Metal control panel: under
Wood control panel: over

There is little point in putting a dust protector under 3/4" of wood unless you are trying to collect dust in it (not to mention pinch your fingers).

edit: ahofle posted what I was going to say:

If the panel is metal it should be under.
If the panel is wood it should be over.

But even many metal panels had the dust cover on the top.

Ya know I was thinking that also but I don't see anyone posting that they do not use washers so lol...  I guess it would confine the dust to the joystick hole so it would be easier to clean out with a keyboard vacuum.  Cant hurt I guess ;).  Thanks for the replies guys!!
