What are the thinnest/most transparant P1/P2 buttons?
« on: July 17, 2003, 11:18:30 pm »
I'm thinking about putting my numlock/capslock LEDs inside the buttons for games like Asteroids. But, the buttons would have to be see-through in order for that to work. What buttons work well?
And while we're on the subject of LEDs, what are some good, bright LEDs that will work with the IPac?

Look for LEDs labeled "Superbright".

#Edit#:  Often rated for 20mA to 30mA current.  You may have to give them resistors for them to work properly.  Or maybe not, on the IPAC.  Haven't tried.   #/Edit#

You can find really freeking bright LEDs at this web site:
http://www.theledlight.com/

or from parts suppliers like
Newark
and
DigiKey.

If you have a Klaus Radio in town, you can probably find them there too.

Having exhausted all other options, go to Radio Shack.  You can get second rate LEDs for a 300% markup there.

A possible solution for the thin button thing might to be to just buy translucent buttons and either get some form of sticker or paint it on yourself.  ;D

When I say translucent buttons, I don't mean the happs goofy looking buttons, I mean the actual translucent buttons like this

The only problem with translucent buttons is that they are only available as leaf switches (as far as I've seen). The buttons themselves are not too difficult to come by, but the switches aren't quite as easy to find. Plus the leaf switch alone (which is possibly even used) costs as much as a brand new fully intact horizontal microswitch pushbutton.

OK...I spoke to my guy locally here and he will sell you a complete button in either Red or Blue. He does have a limited quantity, so you can't get a ton of buttons, but he'll sell you them for $1.50 US each + whatever it costs to ship it to ya. He ships to US only though....so I hope you live here in the states.

Let me know if your interested via PM and give me your vitals (Location, quantity, color, short or long) and I'll let him know... :D

*MODS*  if it is unacceptible to do this please let me know and I won't do this again. I'm not tryin' to break the rules, I just wanted to help out a fellow Mamer  ;D

I appreciate your effort. Unfortunately, I just can't see myself using any color but white for my P1/P2 buttons.
