4-player CP - UltraStik 360 to all - overkill?
« on: October 28, 2009, 10:24:50 am »
After a long time reading those forums, it's time to make a question (and sorry for my English).

I'm building a 4-player CP and thought about putting UltraStik 360s to all players. However, after a bit of thinking I'm wondering if the flexibility (and additional price) of U360 are really worth for 3rd and 4th players that won't get as much used - I have a feeling that 4 player games use 8-way controllers mostly.

Since I'm more an enthusiast than an expert, my questions:

- Is there any popular 4-player game that would benefit from a 4-way joystick or from an analog one? Seems this is the point to define whether adding the U360s or not.

- If the U360s are not needed for the 3rd and 4th players, what would be a good joystick with similar appearance to use (ball top version)? From what I read I should look for a Sanwa JLW - any specific model?

Thank you!

The only games I can see that run 4 player simultaneous using 4-way joy are Comotion and Minesweeper. I'm not sure the working status of them either. Probably not worth the $$$ to have 4 u360's.
I am in the process of planning my 4-play CP and I will be using 8-ways for players 3 and 4.

So it seems I won't really loose much by going 8-way for 3rd/4th players...thanks!

Only aesthetics.  There was a thread within the last couple weeks asking about an 8-way stick that looked identical to the U360 for the same purpose.  I think there was a recommendation to use one that was basically the same with a different colored shaft.  I don't remember the specifics though.

Sanwa JLW is what the U360 is based on and from the top of the panel you'd never be able to tell the difference you can get them over at lizard lick(about 6 sticks down the page) for like $20
