Ultrastik 360 Questions
« on: October 22, 2009, 09:18:11 pm »
I'm thinking about purchasing a couple of Ultrastiks for my arcade cabinet and had some questions:

1. I hear they are a simple drop in replacement to my old P360's, is that correct?
2. I have a wood panel, I believe I can mount these under the wood + purchase the longer stick, is that correct?
3. Does holding down 1p shift the remaining keys on the U360? I'd REALLY like to have a way to "esc" with 1p start + another key as shift.
4. If I can't shift... I want to use an a-pac with this stick, is it compatible? (I do NOT want to use another ipac or my existing jpac)
5. Will this be as durable as my P360? Those things last forever... this stick will take some abuse where I plan to put it. =P

Thanks for any insight.

i can't answer all of your questions, but i'll do my best.

1. I have no idea
2. i bottom mounted mine on a 3/4" wood panel, the long shafts seem to be the right lenght this way, but make the throw way too long for my taste.  i'd recommend routing out some of the wood and using the regular shafts...or the long shafts with a restrictor maybe
3. yes, the u360 does support shifted commands
4. i have no idea
5. i can't compare it to the p360, but i can say that my wife abuses my u360s when she plays pacman and they have held up pretty well. i have had no problems with mine at all.  i also caught my 2 year old hanging by them.  (one hand on each joystick, just hanging there...i was not happy, but they are working just fine)

...u360s rock..

Mine are mounted under 3/4 with the longer shafts. I use the round restrictor plate to shorten the throw. Oh and also the stiffer springs - many users feel the stock spring is too soft.

No clue

Yes, though I have mine mounted under 5/8" with no routing and regular length shafts. I haven't heard any complaints.

Yes, you can shift.

Well, you can shift, so this question doesn't matter.

I beat the hell out these sticks playing Robotron and Blazing Tornado. They are quite durable.

Round restrictors and stiffer springs FTW!

You guys totally rock. Thanks a million. Even if they're not a perfect drop in to my P360's I'm going to pick them up based on the fact that you can shift the buttons and I won't need an additional a-pac/i-pac. Too awesome, thanks again.

Ginsu, thanks for the picture. Those almost look like JP sticks from that height. Considering this will be for SF4, I'm now considering using the regular length shaft as well. How does the throw feel so deep in that length with the circle restrictor?

They should drop in fine, though. Just said we weren't sure. There are two different hole patterns on the U360, so it more than likely will work.

They are Japanese sticks. They're modified Sanwa JLWs. The throw feels great, but you've GOTTA get the restrictors or it's just too long.

So I picked up the U360's and got them in the mail this week.

I haven't installed them yet (see below), but I was curious, how do I set the shift button? I didn't see it when playing with the programming software.

Andy forgot to send me the 4 silver pillars for one of my restrictors. I shot him an email yesterday but haven't heard back quite yet. Hopefully he can get these to me since I wanted to set up the control panel asap.

Modify: Confirmed that they fit the P360 mounting dimensions as well. Hopefully that makes installation a breeze :)

You can't set the shift. Button 8 is shift.

Thanks Ginsu :) With that I ran another search on google for button 8 and shift and found some info I missed originally on the ultimarc website that I need to update the firmware for shiftable keys on the U360's.

Now they're updated to 2.4 :) Thanks again.

Saw this thread a bit late - for fighters I think the P360 is better. (I have both the P360 and U360 to compare). The "heavier" spring is still too soft on the U360, however it is a great all in one joystick with loads of customization possible. I have the longer shaft mounted underneath a 3/4" MDF control panel, and the joystick is a bit short, but still usable. YMMV - good luck!
