Problem with Sambers Hantarex POLO 28 STAR [EUROPE]
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:45:34 am »
Hi all,

I have registered with this forum to gain more understanding of the technical aspects regarding my DDR Cabinet.
(I believe its an upgraded EuroMix2 but a Korean built cabinet - the Japanese manuals i've found differ slightly.)

When the cabinet arrived, we had nowhere to put it, so we wrapped it up in a sheet and left it under cover outside for a couple of months.... having a garage now, I switched the machine on and there are a few problems with the screen.

The youtube video shows what i'm seeing...

I opened the back of the cabinet (the screen portion) and noted the monitor brand... its a Polo 28 Star (they usually have 29" monitors, but this is 28"?!). I took the remote control which allows me to adjust various settings (see manual below).

The settings didnt solve the issue, not even vsync or hsync dials, which I thought it might be. By accident, I knocked a couple of the wires leading into the monitor as I put the control back and the screen came out (slightly blue with snow, and what looks like bad Trapezoid settings (but Trapezoid effect is bottom third of the screen only). Although playable, the wiring is a bit dodgy to get this bad image. (I can make a video of this?)

Does anybody know what might be wrong? I don't know weather its worth getting a whole new screen to replace it, or weather this can be fixed.

Useful Info:  I live in the UK, the screen runs at 15Khz 640x480....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Sean

a big NO to leaving any type of crt exposed to the elements, most likely damp has got into the anode
this machine needs to be in a dry warm place for a few days and possibly you need to dry off the monitor chassis and anode of the crt

post a photo of a screen shot now

Hi There,

I turned on the machine again, and I have a different image this time!?

Heres a video

EDIT: I randomly switched it on today, and I got the original image I was trying to explain before...

im not sure the snow is very visible due to the camera

Thanks

Sean

the snow effect is down to the earth, the screen volts is too high, the side pincushion needs adjusting and in the first pic the horizontal hold is out or the chassis is not switching to the correct resolution

either connect earth to the crt frame  or make sure the monitor power lead earth is connected throuch to earth
side pincushion is on the remote board
screen volts is on the flyback transformer next to the focus control

There were a few problems with this screen really... what i think happened was....

its a Korean DDR EuroMix 2 cabinet (i'm expecting the original machine had a 110v/100v monitor)... when i bought the machine, it was replaced by a Hantarax (italian) probably running at 230v (need to confirm!) and an extra supply has been mounted inside the cabinet...

Maybe the extra supply wasnt supplying the exact voltage or it just wasnt right for the machine, so last week the monitor eventually blew...

I've now bought a Sega Nanao 100v AC, hoping to switch back to the original supply... it would help if i had the original wiring diagrams, so its a slow work in progress!

Thanks for the help so far
