Installed my AimTrak into a Beretta Gun
« on: October 21, 2009, 08:24:19 am »
Hi Folks,
today I found some time to put my AimTrak into a Beretta Gun from Thrustmaster (original for xbox).
It was a hard work, because I must cut of a lot of the pcb to fit into the gun head.

Here you can find detailed picture gallery if you want

Nice work!  I would have been nervous to shape the pcb, but it looks like you did a careful job on it.

For shrinking I must remove two wires (rebuild them) and removed a Resistor and Capacity at the Camera PCB.

Would it be possible to alternately remove the IR detector board and mount that in the gun tip instead of doing it this way?  As long as the components are there, this way should work.  I'm just thinking it could be installed in a tighter spot if the small board could be connected via leads.  Shoot, if that were possible...you could grind down the board even further and fit it in a .22 barrel!   :laugh2:

ah a man after my own heart, good choice ;D

looks like you did a good job, although bkenobi  is right you could probably just removed the sensor and ran a wire to and from, secure it in the barrel with some hot glue & stash the PCB in the grip.

tidbit that gun is modeled after a 92/96 (9mm/.40) Brigadier (brigaider had heavier slide "wavy hump"), although the brigadier also came with finger groove wrap around grips.. that guns got regular 92/96 grips so not completely accurate.

Anyone got change for a dollar?

Very nice! My preference (cost aside) would be for an arcade accurate gun, but among the non-standard choices I've seen people post so far, this one is the winner in my book.
My Collection: Mame cab, 38 dedicated vids, pin, skeeball, coin op air hockey table, Ice Cold Beer, Megatouch, 2 token machines, and payphone (VAPS, pics at Arcade Crusade)

Keep in mind that if you remove the camera from the board you would probably need to keep the same angle and tilt (the same as it is currently mounted on the PCB) because the calibration routines are designed around this.

Yeah, the tilt and angle are definitely important. I thought mine was messed up at first, but then I looked at it closely and realized it was like that on purpose.

I tried it at my crt-arcade and it works *great*

I see the problem now.  You are holding the gun in the wrong hand.  :laugh2:

In the video I see you're using the crosshair.  Turn it off and give it a whirl.

But I am right with you... this looks awesome...

Yeah, I wanted to see the so-called "accuracy" without the crosshairs. Instead I see him fail the first level pretty quickly. :dunno

I don't see how people use a gun with the monitor at an angle like that. Mine is completely vertical.

How can you tell the accuracy with the crosshairs on especially when you can't hit anything with them on?  It looks to me like you are relying on the crosshairs to aim since you wait till it's over the ghost to fire.

Turn that sucker off and play again and show us how accurate it is!   8)

Btw, thanks for the video.

Nice work.

Interesting...that's the same gun as the EMS TopGun II, minus the laser sight (and minus the recoil?)...
