powweb is a perfect example of unethical overselling. There's zero possibility of being able to provide enough people with unlimited storage at that price. Dreamhost is another that promises such nonsense.
I don't use powweb so don't take anything I write as either yay or nay for the service.
Looking over their site, they do have "unlimited" whatever, but you have to have the same usage patterns as the rest of their clientele. This is almost exactly how Comcast markets their "unlimited" services. You certainly have unlimited bandwidth, but if you set the curve, you'll definitely be cut off.
Powweb appear to be attempting to position their business model to be favorable for the "small business" model. I'm not sure what exactly constitutes a "small business" but I guess it's not anybody like Microsoft or IBM. That said, they do explicitly explain their position on large quantities of data. Here is an excerpt direct from their website:
What is "normal" usage?
Normal usage means that you operate a personal or small business website that utilizes resources in a manner similar to most of our other customers. For example, the system requirements of large corporations are not equal to those of small businesses and their resource requirements would not be considered normal for our architecture. Another example would be the storage of large numbers of video or audio files that may be associated with a site, but require more resources to support than a normal personal or business website would.
Clearly, the type of "business" and the large number of large files associated with AAL is definitely not within powweb's idea of a suitable customer. Of course, I don't have AAL statistics, so I could be wrong about that.
