UAII - Anyone improved the keyboard tray?
« on: October 12, 2009, 03:00:06 pm »
Hi All,

Subject pretty much says it all. I've got a UAII kit, and as anyone with one knows, the keyboard tray is impossible to use with the front outside panel installed. It would be great if there was a neat way to hinge the front panel so that it could be easily folded out of the way. Since the tray mounts mid-way in the outer panel, I can't think of a good way to do this.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Endaar

I used a long brass hinge instead of the cam locks on mine.  I added a magnetic latch so it would be held vertical when closed and added a wrist rest velcro'd to the front piece.

When I release the mag latch, by giving it a gentle push, the front flips down to reveal the wrist rest, keyboard and mouse.

about $10 and an hour and I now have a usable solution.

I also used a piano hinge that flips the panel down 180 degrees instead of sliding it out with the tray.  The tray and keyboard then slide out with nothing in the way.  I also added a lock to keep it shut.

That sounds like it would be perfect. Can I pester you for a pic or two?

Thanks, Endaar
