Mamewah Screensaver issue
« on: October 09, 2009, 04:34:07 pm »
Sorry for posting this in the main forum, but I'm in need of a quick answer to my latest 'dilema'

I have MameWah 1.63 set up to show preview videos for my Mame Layout;

Code: [Select]
### Artwork Settings ###
artwork_image_paths C:\mame\vids;C:\mame\marquees;C:\mame\snap
movie_preview_path C:\mame\vids
movie_artwork_no 1
enable_fuzzy_search 0
history_dat_file
history_dat_artwork_no 2

And here's my screensaver settings:

Code: [Select]
### Screen-Saver Settings ###
enable_music_in_screensaver 1
select_random_game 0
saver_type slideshow
movie_path
movie_fullscreen 1
quit_delay 0
saver_commandline

When the screensaver kicks on, I just get a blank screen. No matter which artwork I change the "snaps" to, same result.

I have the screensaver layout pointing to artwork #3, but the same thing happens if it's set to "1" or "2".

This only happens with my mame setup, it works fine with Atari 2600 (I have no movie previews for that, just screenhots), and this only started when I changed the mame layout to show movies instead of screenshots.

Thanks for reading.

*Edit: The screensaver works if I set it to preview movies, but not with the snaps.

So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Code: [Select]
### Artwork Settings ###
artwork_image_paths C:\mame\vids;C:\mame\marquees;C:\mame\snap
movie_preview_path C:\mame\vids

So do you not use the artwork #1 box for any images...just movies?

If so I don't see why what you've set shouldn't work, but generally you don't specify the video path in the artwork_image_paths setting (but most people use the same box for images and movies). Try:

Code: [Select]
artwork_image_paths ;;C:\mame\marquees;C:\mame\snap

Getting the blank screen screensaver (when not specified) usually means something is wrong and so it is defaulting to that type of screensaver. I can't see much reason why that would be here though. Have you had a look in mamewah.log, just to see if there is anything helpful in there?

Code:
artwork_image_paths ;;C:\mame\marquees;C:\mame\snap

Correct, I only use artwork #1 for movies (in my mame.ini)

... just tried:

Code: [Select]
artwork_image_paths ;;C:\mame\marquees;C:\mame\snap
.. same results.

The mamewah log shows:
