I am by no means any kind of wine aficionado (yep, I spelled it right :-)) but I thought that someone here might get a kick out of this.

Everyone here knows about woot.com, yes?
How about Wine.woot.com?

Well todays wine, Boss Monster, should be especially appealing to folks on BYOAC!
Go take a look at wine.woot.com and zoom in on the label.
Not sure if the wine tastes like a Power Pill, Giant Hamburger or Beer on Tap(per), but the label is/was just cool enough to draw my attention.

Wait, I thought we couldn't send alcohol via mail OUT of this state, crap. I guess it makes sense that it would work both ways, esp since our state loves to tax such stuff. :<

Not to change the subject but...at least you folks (america) can purchase your alcohol practically anywhere.  In Canada we have to go to designated 'Beer Stores' or 'Liquor Stores' with the latter being run by the government!!   :-[

Well in Washington State (US), the harder liquors are only sold at the liquor stores or Indian reservations.

In this state, liquor is regulated by the state.

Here in Alabama, liquor is sold in state stores, but beer and wine is sold in grocery stores and gas stations.  And if you have the rare gas station that also has a liquor store built in, the law is that you can't sell beer and liquor in the same store, so they have the liquor on one side of the store and the beer on the other, with the counter in between and a separate door outside to get to the liquor part.

And then we have some dry counties (no alcohol sold anywhere in the county) and beer-only counties.

In places like Pennsylvania, all alcohol is sold in state stores.

Depends on the province good sir, I live in Ottawa and if I drive to Gatineau (Province of Quebec), I can get wine and beer from any corner store.

Why is alcohol so restricted in the US/Canada?

Can you not even get it at the supermarket etc?

It seems so strange to me that some of you have trouble even buying a beer. Building stuff isn't half as much fun without a nicely stocked fridge :)

Don't even get me started on this
It is so stupid the way alcohol is regulated
and here in Maine you can buy beer and wine at the grocery store, but have to go to a state approved liquor store and the nearest one is 20 miles away, so we have to go to new Hampshire to get liquor, what a pain in the ass.
Good thing I like beer!

good news though, my friend in NH order up some Boss Monster for me, Woo hoo!

Nice :)

I keep wanting to look into home brew but its just something else to try and find time for. I can imagine my first few attempts will taste like the other awful homebrew I have tried. I guess its like most things that needs practice.

I helped my friend chop up a load of pears recently as he is making some Perry. Its his first attempt but I'm looking forward to sampling the results :)

In my state you can buy beer, wine and liquor all at the grocery store, or gas station, etc.  We're not all oppressed!

I'd love to learn how to brew my own beer.  Thinking about getting some friends together to do that.

A couple other drinks I might try would be home-brewed mead or limoncello.  They're both supposed to be very easy to make.

Touche!!  Yes, you are correct, I thought about that right after I posted!  Good old Quebec, if only the rest of the country was as laid back as they are (mostly  ;)).  It's funny all these different rules and regulations, everywhere is a little bit different.  I can't imagine living in a 'dry county' though....by 'dry' I am assuming you can't sell alcohol but it is ok to drink it correct??

Why it is so restricted is something I have always wondered Franco.  It's not the influence of the church, I can tell you that.  If anything else it's uptight politicians + insurance companies/litigaiton.  Our country seems to be run by watching out for the lowest common denominator (Just my opinion of course).  We create and modify laws based on what some moron has done and ruin it for everyone else.  Someone does something stupid under the influence for example and it's alcohols fault.  Meanwhile most folks are wise enough to know that they shouldn't do dangerous things like drinking and driving.  We can keep banning things and making it impossible to own certain 'dangerous' things so that we may all feel more protected and safe when really, we are losing our freedom.    :soapbox:

Ok, wow, I really opened this one up and that wasn't my intention...I apologize for the rant...

The fridge is always stocked and especially when it comes to the build....not when using any power tools though or I might end up having them banned by my local government!!

  Stay thirsty my friends.

Yep, can't sell it anywhere in a dry county, but you can drink it.  So you can drive to the next county to get some.

And then there is the whole "can't sell it anywhere on Sunday" laws.  That seems to be decided from town to town.  Here in Alabama, most places can't sell on Sunday.  Some gas stations even put chains over the beer cooler doors to keep people from opening them at all on Sundays.

Another strange law in Maine that Bender didn't mention about liquor sales: The state price fixes all liquor sales, even if you were to own a liquor store (which must have a special licence) you HAVE to sell the stuff at the prices that the state imposes. I find it odd that the state does this for liquor, but not for anything else (not beer, cigs, wine, etc, just booze)...

BTW Bender, where in Maine are you? I prolly asked this years ago, but I am getting old (turned 30 a few months ago, I think...)...

We can't buy at grocery stores in BC, but there is a beer and wine store or BC Liquor store on every corner and attached to every pub. If you need a drink, you can throw a rock and find someplace usually.  :lol

I wonder whether that wine is any good? I'd buy a bottle just for the novelty. But in my experience, if the wine company has to resort to this sort of gimmick to get a first sale, it's awfully unlikely they're expecting a follow up purchase!

I remember having to drive down to New Hampshire to buy anything strong to drink, heh.
