What type joystick is this?
« on: October 05, 2009, 11:44:40 am »
Guys i'm trying to restore the Mr Do cab...and I have no idea what type of joystick to get for it...All I know is that it is a 4 way, ball top...it has a gray plastic base and and 4 leaf switches...I'm trying to find a replacement for it, but there are so many different brands and i have no idea if they will fit correctly or not... Does any body have any pointers or know where I can find out what brand are used mostly on different cabs...

Wico

Should say WICO on the base and the hole for the joystick should be cut into a diamond pattern. If yours is a knock-off, you should replace it with a Wico.

A site can only say the words BALLS, SHAFT, and SLOTS before it's banned at work. My post might not even show up ;D

The one one Mikes is a knockoff (the screws in the leaf switch are the key). I haven't used them so I can't comment on the quality.

Wico leafs, particularly 4-ways, can be tough to find. I would spend some time checking eBay and, if you see one, snap it up. There are lots of folks who will jump on them when they see them (present company included).

I ended up ordering from Mike last night...paid 15 bucks...

I spent last night working on the coin door, ( painting) and I was looking at the joystick base on the CP and I couldnt find a logo anywhere on it... I didnt want to unscrew it...because I know when i switch everything into the new cab, I didnt want to mix up the wiring... Seems to me that maybe the one that was installed (joystick) might be a knockoff as well...

Man that cab looks rough. Hard to imagine how they get that bad (or worse), but kudos for restoring it!

haha...yeah everytime i step up to it, I always give a sigh....makes me wonder what hell it went through to end up the way it did...Luckily I was able to have an empty Ladybug cab that was in better shape...I spent last weekend painting the interior...probey next couple weeks, I'm going to start moving the components from one cab to the other...Kinda dreading it...cuz I have no idea what i'm doing...hahaha

Actually, Wico did  have a version with screws in the leaf.  That's the version of joystick these new knockoffs are copying.  Look in an Elevator Action Manual or any older Taito or Sega Manual and search for the Joystick Assembly part of the manual.

Thanks 2600....that manual will come in handy...Yeap that looks like the joystick...plus the coin door shematics look simualr to the one i'm redoing...

Now i might get chastized for this...but the only modifaction that i will do is probley replace the leaf switches with cherries...Now I dont know why...but for some reason i like cherry switches compared to leaf ones...I ordered the joystick from mike and got 3 happ pushbuttons from Lizardlick ( they were on sale)...
