Wireless X-Box 360 Controllers???
« on: October 05, 2009, 12:24:36 am »
With the N64 adapter being such a problem.... I started looking for some universal controllers to play games with and I was wondering if anyone has one of these controllers.  I was also wondering if anyone knew how many you could connect to your PC (say for four player games).

They work fine.  There is an official adaptor for using with the PC.  If you don't need wireless, the wired x-box 360 controllers are cheaper (especially as they don't need the adaptor).

First, as i asked the same thing about a year ago. (search, yep is some info on it).

I use it for all my stuff, some of the emu's are a bit tricky to set up but all can be done. Joy2key can help with some of it, but it is some work. Right now I believe i have everything working with it except the 3Do emu (was last on my list of "make work" and just never got around to it), I'm sure it will.

As mentioned above, look for the PC version, it comes with a USB reciever (you only need one, you can hook all the controlers to the same one), once you get that any one will work (the 360 looking gamepads are all the same) so if you have a 360 you could actually use it, just be a pain linking it back and forth all the time. www.buy.com has the PC ones on sale every once and awhile for about $35 (with the usb reciever). Ebay is good spot as alot of people buy the PC one (as its cheaper then the 360 one most of the time even if they are the same thing) for the 360, then sell the USB thing on Ebay.

keep itn mind it works pretty well, its just extra work to set it up.

I've been setting up my Emu's with an Xbox 360, & I have a few problems overall.

First, let me say that the controller works fine in MAME, MESS, Nestopia, Fusion, Daphne, NullDc, & Project64.  My problems come from working with a frontend.  Hyperspin doesn't support gamepads, so you have to use Joy2key to navigate the menu's.  This isn't too big a problem, except when you're in the emulators, you may get additional keypresses (for example, if MAME sees Joystick Button1 & joy2key has that mapped to a key as well).

The main problem I have is with NullDC, which also doesn't support gamepads.  So, joy2key would be necessary to run this emulator with this controller.  It seemed like mapping all the keys ini joy2key would cause more keypress problems in the other emus.  I suppose Chankast or Demul might solve the problem, but I haven't tried them yet...

I really appreciate the feedback this is exactly what I wanted to know... I am having some o fthe same problems will nullDc and I am not sure how to get around the two keys problem.

I apologize if the there was another posting a year ago... I did do some searching through google (because the function was down here) but I didn't come across anything/must have missed it.

I do have one additional question, just to clear things up.... if I buy this:

http://www.buy.com/prod/pc-xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows-microsoft-wireless/q/loc/108/203472570.html

I will have one adapter... is that all I need for all controllers?  Also, I have an XBox 360 right now... would I be able to use those same controllers?

Thank you very much for the help!

I bought this...

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2

It will support up to 4 wireless controllers (the same ones you use for your xbox 360).

Keep in mind, you'll have to re-sync the controller to the PC or Xbox as you go back and forth.

I got one of these Xbox 360 PC wireless receivers to play Need for Speed Shift with my wireless xbox 360 controller. The thing that sucks about it is the trigger buttons are mapped to the same axis. So you couldn't press the brakes at the same time as pressing the gas. On top of that the gas/brakes behave like you're pressing an analog button anyway, so if you hold the right trigger half way, nothing, press it a bit more that half way, it's like you're flooring it. It is a NFS Shift controls problem as it is not a Games for Windows game and treats the triggers like regular buttons and not an analog control.

Just keep in mind that there are limitations in Windows with regards to joysticks and you may run into some differences there.
