Side Mounting Holster... does it exist?
« on: October 01, 2009, 02:33:40 pm »
With all the Light gun talk I was wanting to get two but instead of the HAPP holster (Which I like) that mounts on the front or top of the CP, I am looking for something to mount to the side of the cabinet. A search through the forums has turned up precious little, but most of those posts were old.

So, does anyone know of or make a side-mounted holster? I am sure I can't be the only one who would want one. Some of you CNC entrepreneurs could a fast buck I bet.
Empire had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All Jedi had was a bunch of Muppets

i dunno.. i can't remember ever seeing one in the arcades..

for one when moving the cab that side holster could present a problem, for example door ways or could be damaged being caught on something.

so it makes more sense to have it in the front and the sides relatively flat.

im sure one could be fashioned out of sheet metal or perhaps a mold could be made.
Anyone got change for a dollar?

I can't tell from the pictures if I'd be able to modify a standard holster to work or not.

I remember seeing discussions about side mounted cup holders.  I think most people had problems with them.

Although a friend of mine has a hunting game(converted from an NFL Blitz cabinet)  It had PVC tubes mounted on either side for the shot guns.  It looked pretty good when we picked it up.  Although one of them was already cracked and the other one shattered while we were moving into his basement.  He ended up removing both and he bought a cheap gun rack and mounted it to the front of the cab.

I used to have a DC and guns in my 1st cab. I just screwed a couple of curtain tiebacks like these into the sides and hung them by the trigger guard.

I know they are not a holster as such but they looked nice and worked. Plus they will fit mst guns too  :D

What I'd like is to have something actually inside of the door on either side of the coin door.  Like a plastic insert that woudl say take the gun up past the trigger just leaving the handles exposed, but part of the cabinet.  I dont think that exists so I was planning on making something, just havent got that far yet.

How are you mounting them to the side, re-tacing the bolts to the side or drilling a hole for flat-head bolts??

I found them for about $5 a piece at K-Mart.

I used these tool hooks for mine.  They work really well and were really cheap.

I just used a normal U-bolt available at any hardware store.  Then I painted mine black.    They work great.   I've had them for about a year, and haven't had to repaint them yet to due scuffs from removing and inserting the gun, although at some point down the line, I might need to do that.    But, obviously, repainting is very easy to do.

The first picture is just of the U-bolts, I'm referring to.  They're availble in a large number of sizes.
Then the other two pictures are of my cabinet with the holders.   I couldn't find a better view than that, sorry.

I also used U-bolts.  I fit them in the same holes as the original guns were installed in on my Area 51 cab.  They worked great with my Scorpion3's but were not quite big enough for the Namco GunCon2's, so I added a stainless steel bolt in the top hold.  Looks great and works well.

Bicycle frame-mount items work well.  The diameter of a bike frame tube is about the diameter of a gun barrel.

I got these for my ACT-Labs guns, but they also work very well with my LCD TopGun IIs.

How do you use a lightgun with a monitor angle like that, Jason?

Actually, it works fine.

With the ACT Labs guns, I got them set up to work well in the Windows desktop, but I had trouble w/ MAME & then no luck after putting tinted glass in front of my monitor.

Same for the LCD Top Gun IIs.  Set up with light bars above & below (taped to front of glass for testing), they work rather well on the Windows desktop & in testing with Crossbow.

Never got around to hard-mounting the light bars--will likely go for the new GGG gun after it gets more testing & is offered with a gun case.

Thanks,
-Jason

thin-wall PVC pipe (think central vacuum pipe) painted black with a slot cut out on the bottom for the trigger guard.
Cheap and you can quick draw the gun with no fear of breaking off some part of the gun
