alright i have my monitor in my case and its on wedges that keep it at the angle that i want.  what i want to know now is how do i keep the monitor supported from the back of the cab.  in essence, how do i keep it from sliding out the back?

the monitor angle and situation looks kinda like this http://offy.com/mame/images/leftview.jpg  this is Offy's cab, so i hope he doesnt mind the ref!

I always screw the monitors into the shelf. This is a bit harder to do with PC monitors, but it is possible.

If that won't work for you, then you need to run a board across the back to keep it from falling out.

Have you checked how hard it my be to remove the monitor from it's plastic housing. If you could I bet you could easily find a way to mount it. A metal frame underneath would hold alot better than any plastic casing. If it's a cheaper one, though, it may not have metal underneath. Might have just a plastic houseing. In that case, paigeoliver's block idea would probably be your best bet.

well i think im just going to put a brace across the back.  my monitor sticks out pretty far, so what i plan on doing is trying to find some metal bars, mount one on each side of the back of the cab which is open, and then slide a 2x4 in there...like in old castle times when they barred the door, slid the wooden plank through the slats.  like that.

I'm not sure what it's called exactley. but you know that wire ribbon with the  holes in it,  I think it's called wire strapping???  You'll find it in the plumbing section in home depot.

It's pretty strong, cheap.  provided it's been screwed in a secure place.

Cheers,
Aricade

I don't know if this is too low tech or not, but I simply screwed a 2x4 on the shelf right behind the monitor base. Unless your monitor is at a severe angle, it will be fine. Having said that, I will have to remove the monitor if I ever want to move the cab to another room or up the stairs or something. No biggie for me since the back of the cab is open, don't know about your situation. But if you're looking for a quick fix, it worked for me.

For some reason, I think those metal strips are called like Plumber's Tape or Carpenter's Tape or something silly like that. It's been referred to at least one time since I started lurking here. One of the metal-shop guys will surely hop on with a more reliable answer though :)

If only there was a search engine where you could use rough sketches as search inputs.

It's steel strapping.  I have a box of it here from HD that's called "ALL ROUND steel strapping".  I think it comes in steel and copper, but that could just be color.  It's in with the bulk copper pipe.   Plumbers probably do have a kooky name for it though :)
Back for nostalgia, based on nostalgia.

well i think im going to go with the low tech solution and use the 2x4.  that was the original plan anyway, i was just seeing if there were any other options.  plus i have a 2x4 handy and dont have a "metal strap thingy" lying around anywhere :)
