Anyone hack an orig dreamcast controller?
« on: July 15, 2003, 09:26:51 pm »
I have 2 extra dreamcast controllers that I'd like to use for hacking my dreamcast to my cab and I see that the triggers are analog.  I wouldn't be afraid of going with PSX controllers and an adapter but I already have these pads.

Does anyone know if it is possible to wire the 2 analog triggers so that you get a digital resonse?  I'm guessing no, but thought I'd give it a shot anyhow.

I did,very easy ! :)
Just follow the picture and everything should be fine.
You DO need a fine tip soldering though. The contacts are REALLY small :-\.

I've done more than a couple of the Sega DC pad and yes, if you go to the right contact, it'll be fully digital.

This info has been in the Game Consoles FAQ forever...I'm a little surprised you didn't check their first Frost.  ;)

Well upon closer inspection, the link I have to the dc2jamma pic isn't working (mameworld turned off direct linking).  Oh well, I was planning on making an update to that section soon anyway.

heh.   :) You know I checked every link possible (some were broken like you said), lest I anger the gods.  Even looked up the FAQ by citnzfish....there was a link for a madcatz controller, that's about it.

If you do update - that link above would be a good one.  I picked up 2 orig sega controllers from software etc for 7 bucks each last week, so they are darn cheap if anyone is interested, and the soldering job isn't really as tough as the guy makes it out to be.

EDIT:  after I get them hacked I can take pictures if anyone's interested...though you probably wouldn't want to see the rat's nest of my cabinet wiring  :P
