Control Panel Overlay
« on: September 28, 2009, 10:41:28 pm »
Could someone for the love of God PLEASE help, or explain to me how to make a cool lightning style overlay with the lightning bursting out from the tracball? Can't afford mamemarquees and can't risk it not fitting my control panel.

I am not super computer savvy, but i'm not a complete turd either. if you can explain it in simple terms i'm sure i could follow your lead. I have my CP ready for paint and overlay and i'm chomping at the bit to get it wired up?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.....Thanks!

 Can't afford mamemarquees

Q: what's your budget?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

There's a bargain bin at mamemarquees. I bought my sideart there for 50% cheaper than regular price.

My budget is as cheap as possible. I know a control panel overlay from mamemarquees will run me about $70 and a marquee will be around $15 - $20. So all together that's around $100 so i guess my budget would be no more than $50 ideally.

Depending on the sizes you are looking at, you might be able to get something printed locally for that cost.  Have you checked local print shops to find out how much they charge?

haven't checked yet. i guess at this stage i'm more concerned with where i might find the picture that would be big enough to print that size, and lay out good on the panel. i really like the "plasma lightning ball" look and i can't seem to find one that'll work to overlay the tracball

Well, I'd figure out the cost first because if it's outside your budget, then the whole thing becomes moot.

If it's within cost, then likely your options will be making it yourself (assuming you have the graphics tools/skill at your disposal) or seeing if someone will make it for you.
