Video snapshots not showing
« on: September 27, 2009, 09:36:26 pm »
Alright, so I'm stumped here. I followed several threads leading to this, so I did my homework.

-NLite no-WMP install, so I installed VLC only.
-Videos show in VLC player, but not in Mala.
-The files are under Mame/Movies. Mala points to it.

They simply won't appear. So as a test I tried enabling the Mala screensaver set on 'videos', pointing to the same folder. I set it to 10 seconds for testing purpose... and I get a black scree with 'no files found'. I'm seriously stumped as to why it wouldn't see a folder filled with .AVI.

I don't think capitals in the folder path would matter  :banghead:

As a sidenote, pictures aren't working through the Screensaver either, wtf <_<

The same folders that show the snapshots while going through the menus (which is working fine), recursing subfolders, gets me a 'no files found' as well. Is it broken or something?

what layout are you using?
does the layout have a video window?
do you have divx installed, if so uninstall it and install xvid

I installed only VLC, and I didn't see any options to uninstall DivX codecs, so I've been lost with this.

I've installed the 'Zebra' one, and yes I did check if there's a video box. I even tried taking off and back in to make sure it wasn't just mis-saved or something.

As I said, I already checked other threads for this, and still not working.

I rechecked, no DivX installed. I manually installed Xvid 1.2.2, still no dice. It's like Mala doesn't see the files, even thought I pointed it over and over to the proper folder.

Why would it show the snapshots, but won't show them in Screensaver mode anyway. Completely confused and annoyed by this today.

I know I'm replying to my own topic, but making sure people see this, rather than missing an edit.

I think this is a bug right now. Not the video, the screensaver stuff.

Let me spell out the steps :

-Set Screensaver to Pictures
-Exit Mala.
-Start up Mala, wait on screensaver, everything works.
-Set Screensaver to Video, "No files Found"
-Set Screensaver to Pictures, "No files found"
-Exit Mala, Start up Mala, wait on Screensaver, pictures show up.

Mala doesn't seem to like it when you switch screensaver mode without rebooting it, how odd.

Either way, videos still don't work. I'm going to bed, I'll mess with it more next time. If you have more suggestions, go ahead. I've tried everything I could find right now.

To resume :

-NLite Windows without WMP.
-Installed VLC.
-Installed Xvid 1.2.2 manually.
-Layout has a video box (Zebra's layout from Mala's download page, and doublechecked myself)
-Videos have same filename as ROM (and as pictures, that do work).

This testing was done with the game 1942, if you think I could have typoed it <_< I think not.

I am assuming you did a full install of Mala.  What version of Mala did you install?

1.05, latest stable version, as they didn't offer the 1.62 version up yet, still in beta on their website.

This is the codec pack I installed to see the videos (from emumovies) within MaLa:

Yep.  It's one of two things I believe.

1.  K-Lite will address any video codec issues you may have
2.  When creating a layout and inserting a video field, make sure it is on the top of the stack (bring to front).  Make sure when you double click on the Video field that you point MALA to your video folder.

That should do the trick.
Galaga... Was there any other game?
