Logitech Action Pad and Gamepad Hacks
« on: September 27, 2009, 07:30:25 pm »
I just opened up a new Logitech Wingman Action Pad  and a Logitech  Dual Action Gamepad I bought three years ago.

The original intent was to hack them. Though I can't remember the specifics of the original plan. (I think the analog joysticks may have factored into the original plan).

Anyway, I just tried one with my system and can't get it to work. I installed the software and followed instructions and was wondering if someone can tell me how to use it with MAME.

(I'll probably end up ditching them both, because I don't want to have to install software for a controller to work).

Thanks a lot.

Any pad that requires additional drivers to work is questionable as suitable for arcade control hacking in my opinion. If it'snot recognised as a simple USB gamepad or HID, it more often than not will be a pain to setup.

If it is being recognised as a gamepad by Windows, just go into MAME's settings (either mame.ini if using the command-line version or in the options menu if using MAME32 or MAMEUI) and make sure he appopriate boxes/flags are set to recognise joysticks and gamepads.

The problem is that I'm not sure if the software is actually needed, because it didn't work before I installed the software and it still doesn't work either way. (I use WolfMAME 106).

I'd like to point out that Windows did appear to find it when I first plugged it in, before installing the software.

Now, I can't even figure out how to uninstall the software. (@#$%! Logitech)...

In my experience, any Logitech controller works without Logitech drivers, though it may work better with them.  Namely, my Logitech Cordless Rumblepad2 doesn't actually RUMBLE unless the Logitech drivers are installed.  With generic USB drives, no rumble.  But otherwise it's plug and play and at least WinXP can use it without any more effort.

Mine is not working at all.

It works when I test it in the Logitech software, but that's it. WolfMAME doesn't see it at all.

Maybe it's the build of MAME you are using. Download a few different builds (starting with the original command-line MAME and MAMEUI) and see what comes up.

WolfMAME 106 is the only option, since the guy I'm making the panel may want to submit high scores to T.G. and that is the only version they accept scores on.

I know nothing about command lines anyway, and I've never found a step-by-step instruction page on this, so I'd just as well stick to what I can get to work.

Thanks.
