  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

if you had something good like a sega Stv or a neo geo you probably wouldnt want to mame it.

but a golden tee 98? Unless you really like golden tee theirs no reason not to mame it. and even if you really do like golden tee, like me, Mame runs golden tee very well, so its not an issue. Mame away.

I would recommend building from scratch provided you have the tools and skills to work with wood.  If not I would say just gut the cabinet and MAME it.

How can you recommend building a new one when you don't know what cab this one really is?  Golden Tee dedicated machines (if that's truly what it is) have good sized monitors and a large CP to start with.  The only problem (from my memory) is that the CP is pretty deep.  If it's in good condition, you can probably mod it a lot easier, quicker, cheaper than you can building a new one.  If you want a super fancy, lighted, etc machine...start from scratch.   :dunno

I like the deep CP. I MAMEd a Global VR Golf cab for a friend and it's awesome. Still plenty of room for Golden Tee and World Class Bowling, and also has elbow space for two players.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now.  I have a Golden Tee 99 cabinet (original dedicated) in excellent condition.  It makes my existing MAME cab look like crap. :dizzy:  I've been seriously considering giving it the MAME treatment, and this thread probably just pushed me over the edge.  This cabinet is ridiculously easy to work on.  My only issue:  the monitor is a U5000, which is pretty much considered to be garbage.  I have a 25" WG monitor in my existing MAME cab which I'm considering swapping.  It is definitely an older monitor (believe it's in the 7200 line), but I worry about future problems with the U5000.

Ginsu Victim, would you happen to have any pictures of the control panel that you did?  Did you reuse the existing top, or did you cut a new piece of wood?  I'm sure that speedklz wouldn't mind seeing this, as well.  And just to prove I'm not trying to thread hijack, MAME that sucker. :)
