Another xlobby issue
« on: September 25, 2009, 06:25:44 pm »
This is mostly a question for Orion, however, if anyone else can help I'll still appreciate it  :)

I'm having a weird bug with xlobby and I'm not sure how to fix it. The problem occurs when adding songs to the playlist. hmm it's hard to explain. So let's say i have a playlist running and I have an album overlay up that I opened from the main album category on the music page (that sounds confusing, I'm talking about the window that opens to let you select tracks when you press on an album). Usually you just click which songs you want to add to the playlist, close the overlay and open another one of a different album and continue adding songs. Sometimes, as soon as I press a song title to add it to the playlist, the Overlay "snaps", or jumps, to the overlay album of the current track that's playing. It's not a huge deal, just frustrating when the window all of a sudden changes for no reason! Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

If that's too confusing I'll try to add screenshots of the window that I'm talking about.

thanks, Hewskie

Thanks

I know exactly why it's doing that to you. It's an issue with the snap track in Xlobby. When setting it up in order to get it to work right I had to program it to turn snap track on and off. If you go to that album select menu and snap track is on, it does that. The skin automatically turns this on and off when needed, but if you tinker with xlobby, say rescan your database or something it can get all messed up. I also think I might have posted a version with a bug in this process, so you might have downloaded this one. At any rate if it starts to do that just close out Xlobby and open it back up again and it should be resolved. Xlobby isn't a perfect jukebox program because of the way it behaves, and though I resolved these issues as best as I could, you will run into a few hiccups from time to time.

Actually Hewskie, I thought of something else that could be causing this issue for you. After thinking about it some, it shouldn't be doing this unless you go into skin editor, which could throw off the sequence of things. I am not having this issue with mine so if you don't mind could you tell me the specs of your machine. I won't be able to look into it really until Monday, but I should have a file for you to copy and paste into xlobby which might fix it for you. Basically I plan on adding a millisecond time delay in that command if I don't have one already, and if I do already I will increase it a bit. If your just experiencing this little hiccup sporadically than at least in theory this should clean that up for you. Oh and thanks for letting me know about this, if you find any other bugs in it let me know.

Thanks Orion, it actually happens on a fresh load up before I go into the editor at all. Also, it happens sporadically,  but frequently, maybe every 2 or 3 times you add a new song. As for my specs, it's an:

AMD athlon dual core processor 4050e
2.10 GHz 1.75 GB of RAM
Onboard video ATI Radeon 2100

running windows XP Pro sp2

I got xlobby from here: http://xlobby.help.googlepages.com/oldxlobbyversions
other than that I run joy2key and winamp

thanks for looking into this

Hewskie

Edit: the more I think about it, I really don't want the snap track feature at all. If there's a simple way to disable it that would work for me just fine.

Try this out and see if it fixes things for you.

Download this file http://www.mediafire.com/file/yktrwcmzz4k/music.xml and paste it into C:\Program Files\xlobby\skins\Orion\eventgroups.

To answer your question there really is no simple way to disable the snap track. I have it turning on and off at so many points though out that I honestly can't remember where all I have it now at this point. I had to do all that to get the main playlist working right. It actually took me a couple of weeks to figure it all out. Hopefully this will work for you, if not let me know and I will look into creating a special version for you with out the snap track feature.

First, I just want to take a second and thank you for looking into this for me!

The new music.xml file sadly didn't work. I don't want you to go through the trouble of creating a whole new skin for me, there must be a reason I'm having such a strange problem with the snap feature. Should I try a fresh install of xlobby and your skin? Any other ideas?

thanks again,

Hewskie

All I can suggest then is trying my last version of the skin out, and reinstalling Xlobby, it should be #8. I have a few bugs worked out in it that I didn't in previous versions. Everything you need is in the download. Just don't forget to uncheck "ignore folders" in the music database so all your album art shows up this time. If this doesn't work let me know and I will try to recreate the issue. I'm running it on three different machines including my jukebox, and one of those PC's has lower specs than your machine and I'm obviously not having this issue. The sequence of things is getting out of whack for some reason and I am not sure what would be causing that for you.

I'm at school right now, I'll try your newest skin when I get home, thanks. However, I've cosmetically altered your skin substantially and I'd hate to have to go through that again but if that's the only way to fix this then I guess it's worth it.

Thanks again,

Wow, upgrading to your newest version totally fixed the bug! Thanks!

Also, it was very easy to transfer all the changes I had made from your previous release to this one. So it looks exactly the same as I had it, but no more snap issue.

Thanks so much Orion

I'm glad it's working now for you. You must have downloaded one of the early versions I had up. I remember there was one in particular that lets just say had some "issues" that I posted up for a few days accidentally because I was tired. Sorry bout that! I was hoping nobody was trying to use that one. I take it you just copied and pasted your modified XML documents then? That would be the easiest thing to do, just be mindful not to mess with the ones in the folder "event groups" unless you know what you are doing, as that's where all the complicated stuff resides. As I have stated before, getting Xlobby to do what you want it to do is a real bear, and that's where 99% of the work I have in it lies. I guess that's what you get when you are dealing with a program that is designed to be as customizable to the degree that it is. Anyway, I'm glad you were able to sort things out without much issue!

yup, I had been using your revision 6 I think. I did move the xml files over and I was very surprised that xlobby just updated accordingly, I didn't think it would be that smooth, all my events still worked and everything. The only thing I changed in the event folder was the "games events" to make mame work again.

thanks again

I was thinking about creating a version that included the games as many touch screens games would be cool on some style jukeboxes. How did you go about getting Xlobby to launch MAME? Did you use Rom2xlobby? http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3530 I haven't looked into this at all, and I would appreciate your insight. Thanks!

heh. don't you remember orion in my project announcements thread http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=95003.0. you asked me the same question...

QUOTE

Orion:
I noticed that you got the mame features working in yours. I didn't do that because I have no interest in running Mame on my jukebox.... but I am sure some other folks would like to! I worked out the jukebox I leave it to you to work out the MAME stuff if you wish!  Grin Have fun!!!!!!!

Me:
Getting mame to work was a little confusing. I actually ended up having to make batch files for each game I was going to run (short term solution i guess as, I'm only playing 6 or 7 touchmaster games so it's not a big hassle), then just created a database in xlobby that stores batch files, then ran them with a category that points to the database. It's not ideal, but it works for me.

haha. I hope that helps. I did read about the rom2xlobby thing but i couldn't get it to work. My solution seemed so much easier.

Yep, I remember now!  ;D Soooooo you wouldn't happen to mind sharing some of those nifty batch files would ya? ;) What touch master games are you playing? At some point I think I'm going to have to have a go with the rom2xlobby thing, probably not anytime soon though as I will more than likely be swamped the next few months.
