U-Trak "rattle"
« on: September 24, 2009, 10:21:29 pm »
I just picked up my first trackball. Went with the U-Trak but was curious if one aspect of it is indicative of a problem or just normal for all of trackballs (or just the U-Trak).

I haven't mounted it yet, but when moving the ball in certain directions it rattles against the housing. Specifically when giving it a good spin in the down direction. The ball lifts off the internal rollers and hits the flange. Does everyone's do this?

I know that trackballs aren't supposed to be completely snug in their housings, which allows them to roll, but I don't remember any "play" in the ball when playing Centipede and Missile Command on a real coin-op.

Is it a problem or just what to expect from a ball?

Don't remember the result, but there was a thread or two on this in the last year.....

Hmmmm. I searched and read before asking but didn't find anything.
